Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has urged political appointees and senior government officials to uphold integrity as the foundation of their service, emphasizing that honesty and accountability are critical for building a better future. The governor gave the charge during a three-day retreat themed “Anti-Corruption, Financial Fraud, Transformational Leadership, and Ethical Values in the Workplace,” jointly organized by ANHI Consultants International and the Kano State Government in Kaduna over the weekend. In a statement issued Monday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf stressed that every action, decision, and policy must reflect the values of transparency, honesty, and accountability. The governor warned that corruption directly harms the poor and vulnerable, adding that citizens of Kano are increasingly impatient with unfulfilled promises. “They demand action and results. They want a government that works for them, not one that enriches a few. That was why they voted for us in 2023, and we must not disappoint them,” Yusuf added. He further reminded participants that the success of government depends not only on sound policies but also on the integrity and professionalism of those tasked with implementation. He encouraged officials to remain courageous, visionary, and committed to doing the right thing, even in difficult circumstances. Governor Yusuf also commended the organizers, particularly Dr. Aminu I. Gusau and other resource persons, for their role in ensuring the retreat’s success. In his remarks, Dr. Gusau praised the calibre of the administration’s appointees, describing them as capable of leading Kano to the “promised land.” Similarly, the Chief of Staff, Dr. Sulaiman Wali Sani, and the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farooq Ibrahim, applauded the governor’s vision, noting that his administration has achieved in two years what some predecessors could not accomplish in eight. The retreat ended with the presentation of certificates to participants and a group photograph session.

KEBRAM empowers 500 Katsina youth with IT skills

A non-profit organisation, KEBRAM Information Technology, has trained 500 youth from Katsina Local Government Area on Python programming and cyber security. During the two-day training in Katsina, KEBRAM’s Chief Executive Officer, Malam Kabir Kabir-Ibrahim, said the firm has empowered youth for over a decade. Represented by Ishaq Siraj, Kabir-Ibrahim said the firm had supported youth across the state in computer training and paying examination fees for students. Kabir-Ibrahim explained that among the recent trainees, some would be selected after their examinations to join the Cisco Academy for advanced courses. The firm’s Coordinator, Ahmed Salisu-Abdu, described the training as a philanthropic gesture, with Katsina Local Government serving as a partner in the initiative. Salisu-Abdu said the skills acquired would benefit the trainees, their families, the state, and Nigeria, especially in today’s competitive world. “These are highly marketable courses,” he said, noting the rise in global cyber-attacks and stressing the value of training youth to become experts. One participant, Abdurrahaman Ibrahim-Tahir, expressed gratitude for being selected, saying IT skills are crucial in the digital era regardless of academic background. “I studied sociology, but IT skills are essential today. Without them, you risk becoming obsolete. I’m thankful the training was free,” he said. Another participant, Asiya Tanimu, said the knowledge would boost her businesses, allowing many others to benefit. She expressed deep gratitude to the organisers. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that during the training, five participants won ₦10,000 each in a quiz, while six others won ₦5,000 each. (NAN)

FG Declares Public Holiday to Mark Nigeria’s Independence Day

The Federal Government has declared Wednesday, October 1, 2025, a public holiday to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary. The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government. In a statement signed by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, the minister congratulated Nigerians on what he described as a historic milestone. The minister expressed optimism that with collective effort, Nigeria would continue to advance in peace, progress, and development. CSADI Combats Child, Maternal Malnutrition With Local Food Support

The Community Support and Development Initiative (CSADI) has provided nutritional support to 400 pregnant women and children in Kano State as part of efforts to combat malnutrition in rural communities. The distribution, which took place in Rantan village of Bebeji Local Government Area and in Kura Local Government Area, featured the sharing of fortified bul-bul flour — a locally prepared food designed to boost immunity and improve child and maternal nutrition. Speaking during the exercise, CSADI programme officer, Hajiya Hasana, said the initiative was aimed at tackling high rates of child and maternal malnutrition, particularly in rural areas. She explained that beneficiaries were also trained on how to prepare the supplement at home, alongside sensitisation on exclusive breastfeeding, birth spacing, and antenatal care. We teach women how to make it themselves, encourage proper infant feeding practices, and stress the need for pregnant women to attend antenatal checkups,” she noted. Some beneficiaries, mostly rural women with limited access to modern healthcare and nutrition knowledge, also received practical health tips on maternal and child wellbeing. Reacting, the Sarkin Fulani of Bebeji, Adamu Umar Adamu, who also serves as the district head of Bebeji, described the support as timely, especially in the face of rising food insecurity despite the harvest season. “At times, before one child is weaned, another pregnancy follows. In such situations, both mother and child need access to proper nutrition. Heads of households must pay close attention to their families’ welfare,” he said. The traditional ruler commended CSADI for its intervention and urged governments, policymakers, and wealthy individuals to support similar initiatives aimed at improving maternal and child health across Kano State.

Barau Football Club has recorded its first away victory of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, defeating Kun Khalifat FC 3-1. This was conveyed in a statement signed by the club’s Media Director, Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, on Sunday and made available to newsmen in Kano. The NPFL Matchday 6 encounter was held at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, Abia State, in the presence of both clubs’ officials. The triumph also marked Barau FC’s first win of the current NPFL campaign. Midfielder Hilary Ekawu then put the Maliya Boys ahead in the 64th minute, converting from Bismark’s precise cross, before Yahya Ibrahim doubled the lead with his second goal of the match, following an excellent pass from Sugau Aliyu. The brace took Yahya Ibrahim’s tally to three goals in the 2025/2026 NPFL season. Speaking after the match, Barau FC’s Technical Adviser, Ladan Bosso, praised his players for their resilience despite playing away from home. “Actually, I am so happy with the result. Our club proprietor, the general manager, my coaching staff, officials, and players all did well to secure this victory,” Bosso told newsmen. He further emphasized that the team would build on this performance, remain focused, and prepare strongly for their next home fixture against Warri Wolves. Yahya Ibrahim also expressed his delight at scoring twice, dedicating the goals to his parents for their prayers and support. With this victory, Barau FC has moved up to 18th position on the NPFL table, with five points from five matches. ‘They Received More in Six Months Than I Did in Eight Years’ — Ganduje Blasts Yusuf

The immediate past governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has accused his successor, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, of mismanaging state funds despite receiving what he described as unprecedented federal allocations. Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Ganduje alleged that the Yusuf-led administration had received more money in just six months than his government got throughout his eight years in office, yet with little to show for it. “When I took over power, I never wasted time probing my predecessor. Governance doesn’t end with one administration,” Ganduje said. “But Abba Yusuf started his government with probes. Tell me, what have they uncovered? They’ve received more money in six months than my administration saw in eight years. Yet what have they achieved?” The former APC National Chairman accused the current government of reckless spending, insisting that funds were being channeled into projects without real value for money. The Federal Government has distributed 350 motorcycles for dispatch riders and food items to 10,000 youths under the Renewed Hope empowerment initiative. The initiative was jointly launched in Kano by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, and the Director General of the National Productivity Centre (NPC), Dr. Baffa Babba Dan Agundi. Speaking at the event, Dr. Dingyadi commended Dr. Dan Agundi for what he described as visionary and exemplary leadership, stressing that the programme reflects the people-centered policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda. Governor Yusuf’s Educational Strides: State-Owned Governor’s College Emerges Winner in National Competition

As the 10th edition of the National Quiz Competition on Legislature and Democracy 2025 concluded in Kano, Governor’s College emerged as the overall winner, earning the right to represent Kano State at the forthcoming North West National Quiz Competition. This was contained in a statement issued by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s Special Adviser on Information, Ibrahim Adam. According to Ibrahim Adam, the competition, organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS) under the supervision of the National Assembly, Abuja, is aimed at deepening the knowledge of Nigeria’s youth about the role of the legislative arm in promoting democracy. The competition featured six secondary schools drawn from across the state’s three senatorial zones. Professor Suleiman recalled that the first edition of the quiz was held in 2016 within the Federal Capital Territory, and following directives of the Institute’s Governing Council, it has since been expanded to all states of the federation, with this year marking its 10th edition. Certificates of attendance were presented to participating schools, while winners received prizes. The statement further highlighted that Governor’s College was originally established during the second tenure of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in 2011, but its fortunes dwindled over time until Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, upon assumption of office in 2023, revived its infrastructure and restored its glory, leading to this current success. Kano Governor Nominates Two New Commissioners, Appoints Solicitor-General

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has forwarded the names of two nominees to the State House of Assembly for confirmation as commissioners and members of the state executive council. The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced the nominations in a statement issued on Saturday. One of the nominees is Barrister Abdulkarim Kabir Maude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) designate from Minjibir Local Government Area, who is set to be officially conferred with the prestigious rank at the Supreme Court tomorrow. He previously headed the Kano office of a leading Nigerian law firm and is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association as well as an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He also holds advanced degrees in International Economic Law from Maryam Abacha American University of Niger and in Business Commercial Law from Bayero University, Kano. Also nominated is Dr. Aliyu Isa Aliyu, 41, an Associate Professor of Allied Mathematics and Statistician-General of the Kano State Bureau of Statistics. A product of the Kwankwasiyya foreign scholarship scheme, Dr. Aliyu obtained his Ph.D. in Mathematics from Firat University in Turkey, after earlier degrees from Bayero University, Kano, and the Jordan University of Science and Technology. His academic career spans institutions in Nigeria, China, and Cyprus, including a postdoctoral fellowship at Sun Yat-Sen University in China. He also served as the Financial Secretary of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State before joining public service. In a separate development, Governor Yusuf approved the appointment of Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir as Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Justice. Until his new role, Tahir was the Director of Public Prosecution at the ministry. The Head of Service has been directed to complete all administrative processes to enable Barrister Tahir assume duty by Monday, September 29, 2025. Kano Govt Dismisses False Reports on NECO SSCE Ranking

The Kano State Government has refuted reports circulating on some online news platforms alleging that the state did not emerge as the best-performing state in the 2025 NECO Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, **Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya**, the government described the reports as “misleading, malicious, and a calculated attempt to distort the facts” presented by the National Examinations Council (NECO). According to the Commissioner, during the official release of the 2025 results, the Registrar/Chief Executive of NECO, **Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi**, explicitly announced that Kano State produced the highest number of successful candidates with five credits, including Mathematics and English Language. The government maintained that contrary to selective data interpretations being peddled, the NECO Registrar’s pronouncement remains the most authoritative and credible declaration for determining states’ performance. “The claim that some other state topped the performance table is a gross misrepresentation of facts and an attempt to manipulate public perception, as well as diminish the positive image the state enjoys due to the stellar performance of its students,” it added. Waiya further noted that the remarkable achievements of Kano students in the 2025 NECO SSCE reflect the deliberate interventions of Governor **Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration**, which has consistently placed education at the core of its reform agenda through investments in infrastructure, teacher motivation, and student support. “No amount of propaganda or politically motivated conspiracy can rewrite the truth. Kano State remains the most successful state in the 2025 NECO SSCE, and history has already recorded this milestone,” the statement emphasized. The Commissioner congratulated Governor Yusuf and the people of Kano State for what he described as a historic feat in the state’s education sector.
