Kano Hosts NCCE Training as Experts Push Practical Agricultural Education
The National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has recommended an 80 per cent practical and 20 per cent theoretical approach to teaching Agricultural Education in Colleges of Education across Nigeria to equip students with relevant skills and promote self-reliance.
This was contained in a statement signed by Amina Abdul-Azeez Abba, Director of Public Relations at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education (SRCOE), Kumbotso, Kano State.
The recommendation followed a three-day training on the implementation of the Revised Agricultural Education Curriculum, organised by the NCCE and hosted by SRCOE from Monday, October 19, to Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
The training provided a platform for stakeholders to examine the revised curriculum and develop recommendations for its effective implementation.

Among the key recommendations in the exit report were the need to strengthen practical agricultural training, promote agribusiness and entrepreneurship, and provide adequate facilities and equipment to enhance teaching and learning.
The report stressed that greater emphasis on practical training would equip students with relevant agricultural skills, encourage self-reliance, expand employment opportunities and prepare future teachers to contribute meaningfully to agricultural development.
It also identified agribusiness as a critical component of the curriculum, noting that exposing students to the commercial potential of agriculture would encourage innovation, promote entrepreneurship and create opportunities for economic empowerment.
The report further highlighted the need for adequate facilities and equipment to ensure the effective implementation of the revised curriculum and achieve its objectives.
Speaking while presenting the exit report, the Director of Academic Programmes, Dr. Umar Adamu Kwame, who represented the Executive Secretary of the NCCE, thanked Almighty Allah for the successful completion of the training.
He also commended the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his commitment and support towards the successful hosting of the programme.
In his response, the Provost of SRCOE, Dr. Kabir Ahmed Gwarzo, expressed appreciation to the governor for his continued support to the college and thanked the NCCE for selecting the institution to host the capacity-building programme.
Gwarzo noted that the successful completion of the training underscored the importance of collaboration among the NCCE, the Kano State Government and the college management in strengthening Agricultural Education and improving the quality of teacher preparation in Nigeria.
