Gaya Polytechnic Opens Recruitment, Advertises 46 Academic, Non-Academic Positions

The newly established Gaya Polytechnic in Kano State has commenced recruitment for academic and non-academic staff, advertising 46 positions as the institution prepares to commence full operations.

The recruitment advertisement, issued by the Office of the Chairman of the Gaya Polytechnic Implementation Committee, Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for positions across teaching, administration, information technology, accounting, library services, physical planning, sports, healthcare, security and other professional cadres.

The Polytechnic was established in 2025 by the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf as the second Polytechnic in the state, with a mandate to provide innovative, technical and vocational education and produce graduates equipped with employable skills relevant to industry and emerging technological demands.

According to the advertisement, the institution is seeking professionals who can contribute to building a dynamic learning environment anchored on creativity, competence, innovation and modern best practices.

The recruitment exercise covers five academic departments, namely Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Accountancy and General Studies.

Academic Positions

The academic vacancies include Senior Lecturer, Lecturer I, Lecturer II, Lecturer III, Assistant Lecturer, Higher Instructor I and Technologist II.

A Senior Lecturer will be appointed on CONPCASS 07, with candidates required to possess a relevant Master’s Degree with at least 12 years’ teaching, research or industrial experience, alongside the stipulated publications. Candidates with a relevant doctorate may qualify with at least nine years’ experience, subject to the prescribed publication requirements. Membership of a relevant professional body is mandatory.

For Lecturer I, graded CONPCASS 06, applicants are required to possess a relevant Master’s Degree and at least six years’ teaching, research or industrial experience, with the required journal and conference publications. Alternatively, candidates with a relevant doctorate require at least three years’ experience and the prescribed publications. Membership of a relevant professional body is mandatory.

Lecturer II, on CONPCASS 05, requires a relevant Master’s Degree, at least three years’ teaching, research or industrial experience and the specified journal and conference publications, while membership of a relevant professional body is also mandatory.

For Lecturer III, graded CONPCASS 03, candidates must possess a good Master’s Degree in the relevant discipline, with at least two conference/seminar papers, one journal article accepted for publication and at least three years’ teaching, research or industrial experience.

The position of Assistant Lecturer, graded CONPCASS 02, requires a good Bachelor’s Degree in the relevant discipline, with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division, together with an NYSC Discharge, Exemption or Exclusion Certificate.

The Polytechnic is also recruiting Higher Instructor I and Technologist II, both on CONPCASS 02. Candidates for these positions must possess a good Higher National Diploma in the relevant discipline at a minimum of credit level, together with the required NYSC certificate. Applicants for Technologist II must additionally have professional registration.

Non-Academic Positions

The non-academic recruitment covers a broad range of professional and administrative positions.

Administration and Registry

The Polytechnic is recruiting Deputy Registrar, Assistant Registrar, Admin. Officer I, Admin. Officer II, Higher Executive Officer (Admin.), Principal Confidential Secretary II, Senior Confidential Secretary and Confidential Secretary II.

The Admin. Officer II, on CONTEDISS 08, requires a good Bachelor’s Degree, minimum Second Class Lower Division, preferably in the arts, social sciences or humanities, as well as an NYSC Discharge, Exemption or Exclusion Certificate.

Admin. Officer I, on CONTEDISS 09, requires the above qualifications plus at least three years’ post-qualification relevant experience or a Master’s Degree in the relevant discipline.

For Assistant Registrar, graded CONTEDISS 11, candidates must possess at least six years’ cognate experience or a Master’s Degree plus at least four years’ post-qualification cognate experience.

The Deputy Registrar, on CONTEDISS 14, requires at least 16 years’ cognate experience, or a Master’s Degree with at least 13 years’ post-qualification experience, or a relevant doctorate with at least 12 years’ post-qualification experience.

For the secretarial positions, Confidential Secretary II requires an HND at credit level in Office Technology and Management or its equivalent, while Senior Confidential Secretary requires at least three years’ post-qualification cognate experience in addition to the basic qualification.

Principal Confidential Secretary II, graded CONTEDISS 11, requires at least six years’ post-qualification cognate experience, with membership of a relevant professional body mandatory.

ICT and Data Processing

The Polytechnic is recruiting Director ICT, Principal Data Processing Officer and Data Processing Officer.

The Data Processing Officer, on CONTEDISS 08, requires a good Bachelor’s Degree, minimum Second Class Lower Division, in Computer Science or Statistics, together with the required NYSC certificate.

Principal Data Processing Officer, graded CONTEDISS 12, requires at least nine years’ post-qualification cognate experience or a Master’s Degree with at least six years’ post-qualification cognate experience.

The Director ICT, on CONTEDISS 15, requires a good Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Computer Science and at least 21 years’ relevant experience, or a Master’s Degree with 18 years’ cognate experience, or a PhD with 15 years’ relevant experience. Membership of a relevant professional body is mandatory.

Accounting, Audit and Stores

The advertised positions include Chief Internal Auditor, Chief Accountant, Principal Accountant, Higher Executive Officer (Accounting/Audit), Higher Executive Officer (Audit), Chief Store Officer and Higher Store Officer.

For Principal Accountant, graded CONTEDISS 12, applicants must possess a good Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy or Finance, membership of a relevant professional body and at least nine years’ post-qualification cognate experience.

The combined Chief Accountant/Internal Auditor position, on CONTEDISS 14, requires at least 16 years’ post-qualification cognate experience, with membership of a relevant professional body mandatory.

Higher Executive Officer (Accounting/Audit), on CONTEDISS 08, requires an HND at credit level in Accountancy or Finance and the required NYSC certificate.

Higher Store Officer, also on CONTEDISS 08, requires an HND at credit level in Business Studies, Purchasing and Supply or Marketing, together with an NYSC certificate.

The Chief Store Officer, graded CONTEDISS 14, requires at least 17 years’ post-qualification cognate experience, as well as membership of a relevant and recognised professional body.

Library Services

The Polytechnic is recruiting Librarian II, Principal Library Officer II and Higher Library Officer.

Librarian II, on CONPCASS 02, requires a good Bachelor’s Degree, minimum Second Class Lower Division, in Library Science, alongside an NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate.

Higher Library Officer, on CONTEDISS 09, requires an ND at credit level in Library and Information Science/Technology plus the required NYSC certificate, or the relevant ND with at least six years’ post-qualification cognate experience.

Principal Library Officer II, graded CONTEDISS 11, requires an HND at credit level in Library and Information Science/Technology with at least six years’ post-qualification cognate experience. Membership of a relevant professional body is mandatory.

Physical Planning and Technical Services

The positions advertised under this category include Director Physical Planning, Chief Quantity Surveyor, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Senior Architect, Senior Builder, Senior Town Planner, Assistant Chief Engineer and Chief Technical Officer.

Candidates for the Senior Quantity Surveyor/Architect/Town Planner/Builder positions, graded CONTEDISS 11, must possess the relevant professional qualification with at least Second Class Lower Division and six years’ post-qualification cognate experience, or a relevant Master’s Degree with at least three years’ experience.

The Chief QS/Architect/Town Planner/Builder, on CONTEDISS 14, requires at least 17 years’ post-qualification cognate experience or a Master’s Degree with at least 14 years’ cognate experience. Membership of a relevant professional body is mandatory.

For Director Physical Planning, graded CONTEDISS 15, applicants must be fully registered professionals with at least 18 years’ post-qualification cognate experience, or possess a Master’s Degree with at least 16 years’ experience, or a doctorate with at least 14 years’ experience. Professional membership is mandatory.

The Chief Technical Officer, on CONTEDISS 14, requires an HND at credit level in the relevant discipline with at least 17 years’ post-qualification cognate experience and membership of a recognised professional body.

The Assistant Chief Engineer, graded CONTEDISS 13, requires a good Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, preferably at least Second Class Upper Division, with 12 years’ post-qualification cognate experience, or a good Master’s Degree with at least nine years’ cognate experience. Professional membership is mandatory.

Academic Planning, Research and Innovation

The Polytechnic is also seeking a Director of Academic Planning, Research & Innovation and Principal Planning Officer.

The Principal Planning Officer, on CONTEDISS 12, requires a good Bachelor’s Degree in Education Management, Educational Planning, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Social Sciences, Humanities or equivalent, with at least nine years’ post-qualification cognate experience. ICT proficiency is mandatory.

The Director Academic Planning, Research & Innovation, graded CONTEDISS 15, requires a relevant Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree and at least 20 years’ post-qualification cognate experience. ICT proficiency is also mandatory.

Statistics and Sports

The advertised sports and statistical positions are Statistician I, Chief Coach, Principal Coach and Coach.

Statistician I, on CONTEDISS 09, requires a good Bachelor’s Degree or HND in Statistics, with at least three years’ post-qualification cognate experience, or a Master’s Degree in Statistics.

For Coach, graded CONTEDISS 08, candidates may qualify with a good Bachelor’s Degree in Physical and Health Education, a Nigeria Certificate in Education in Physical and Health Education with three years’ cognate experience, or a National Institute for Sports Grade II Coaching Certificate with at least three years’ coaching experience.

Principal Coach, on CONTEDISS 12, requires a relevant Bachelor’s Degree with at least nine years’ coaching experience, a Master’s Degree with at least six years’ cognate experience, or an NCE with at least nine years’ cognate experience. A professional coaching certificate is mandatory.

The Chief Coach, graded CONTEDISS 14, requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical and Health Education with at least 17 years’ coaching experience or a Master’s Degree with at least 14 years’ post-qualification cognate experience. Professional registration and a coaching certificate are mandatory.

Health Services

The health-related vacancies are Medical Officer I, Chief Nurse and Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist.

The Medical Officer I, on CONMESS 02, requires an MBBS qualification, registration with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria and an NYSC Discharge or Exemption Certificate.

For Chief Nurse, graded CONHESS 14, applicants must possess the Nigerian Registered Nurse (NRN) Certificate with at least 18 years’ cognate post-qualification experience.

The Senior Medical Laboratory Scientist, on CONHESS 11, requires a good Bachelor’s Degree, minimum Second Class Lower Division, in Medical Laboratory Science, registerable with the relevant professional body, and at least six years’ post-qualification cognate experience. Candidates with a Master’s Degree require at least three years’ experience, while doctorate holders may also qualify.

Security

The institution is also recruiting a Chief Security Officer, graded CONTEDISS 14.

Candidates must possess a good Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology, Security Studies, Sociology, Psychology, Public Administration or a related discipline, with at least 15 years’ cognate security experience.

Applicants must also be retired officers of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps or another recognised security agency.

The advertisement specifies that candidates must have retired not below the rank of CSP in the Police, Major in the Nigerian Army, or equivalent rank in other services.

Application Requirements

Interested candidates are required to submit 20 copies of their typed application letters, detailed current CVs and photocopies of relevant credentials to the Chairman of the Implementation Committee.

Required documents include birth certificate or age declaration, educational certificates, NYSC Discharge/Exemption/Exclusion Certificate, valid government-approved identification and a medical certificate of fitness from a government hospital.

Applicants are also required to provide two passport photographs and a CV not exceeding four pages containing personal details, academic qualifications, publications where applicable, professional and employment history, computer training, membership of professional bodies, extracurricular activities and the names and addresses of three referees.

The referees are expected to submit confidential reports directly to the Chairman of the Gaya Polytechnic Implementation Committee, with the applicant’s name, department and position applied for clearly stated in the subject heading.

Applicants will be required to produce the originals of their certificates and other relevant credentials if invited for interview.

The Polytechnic further states that candidates must be computer literate and provide evidence of registration with relevant professional bodies where applicable.

Applicants seeking to join the Public Service for the first time must be below 50 years of age at the time of resumption of duty.

Applicants are also required to clearly state the position and department for which they are applying.

Applications are to be delivered to the Secretariat of the Implementation Committee at the Entrepreneurship Education Directorate Building, School of General & Remedial Studies, Sheikh Ja’afar Mahmoud Adam Road, Kano.

The deadline is four weeks from the date of the advertisement, with the notice stating that late applications will not be entertained and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

The advertisement is signed by Prof. Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, Chairman, Gaya Polytechnic Implementation Committee.

The notice also states that the new recruitment advertisement cancels and supersedes Circular No. 1/2026, referenced HCS/MIS/S/359/V.15 and dated 26 January 2026, which had invited the deployment of staff from the Kano State Civil Service to the newly established Polytechnic.

It specifically states that serving officers in the Kano State Civil Service need not apply under the new recruitment exercise.

The development marks a significant step in the institutionalisation and staffing of Gaya Polytechnic as the new institution moves towards full commencement of its academic and administrative operations.
