90% Delivered: Garo Lists Yusuf’s Achievements in Kano

The Kano State Government has claimed that nearly 90 per cent of the promises made by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during the 2023 election campaign have been fulfilled.

Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo made the disclosure at the Kano State Government House during the latest disbursement of the administration’s monthly women’s empowerment and poverty alleviation programme, under which each beneficiary received N50,000 to support small businesses and improve household livelihoods.

The event was attended by the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure; the Emir of Gaya, Dr. Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, who represented the Kano State Council of Emirs; and other senior government officials and stakeholders.

Garo said the administration’s achievements could be seen across several sectors, including road construction, women’s empowerment, healthcare, education, agriculture and water supply.

He specifically cited the completion of five-kilometre roads across communities and the sustained women’s empowerment initiative as some of the interventions delivered under the administration.

“Almost 90 per cent of the promises made during the 2023 election campaign have been fulfilled. Five-kilometre roads have been completed, while women’s empowerment has been sustained,” Garo said.

According to the Deputy Governor, the 90 per cent figure was arrived at following a review conducted by a committee constituted by Governor Yusuf to develop the administration’s campaign blueprint.

He explained that the committee assessed the promises made during the 2023 election and reviewed the level of implementation, leading to the conclusion that almost 90 per cent had been delivered.

Garo also commended Governor Yusuf for what he described as a strategic approach to governance, stressing that the administration’s policies and programmes were being guided by data, statistics and deliberate planning.

“This shows that the administration is not being run off-hand. It is being run with numbers, statistics and strategy,” he said.

He further disclosed that the Governor had directed the documentation of the demands and needs of residents across the 384 wards in the state’s 44 local government areas.

The exercise, he said, would provide the government with a clearer understanding of grassroots priorities and assist in shaping its development plans for a proposed second term, God willing.

On the forthcoming elections, Garo urged women across the state to participate actively in the electoral process, advising them to arrive early at their polling units and cast their votes.

He also encouraged them to remain at the polling units after voting to ensure that their votes were properly counted and protected.

The Deputy Governor called on the women to support candidates from the presidential level down to the State House of Assembly, expressing confidence that such support would contribute to the victory of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Yusuf, National Assembly members and State Assembly candidates.

The monthly women’s empowerment programme, introduced by the Yusuf administration, provides N50,000 to selected beneficiaries to strengthen their businesses, improve household income and promote economic self-reliance.

The latest disbursement, the government said, forms part of its broader poverty-relief and empowerment strategy, while also demonstrating its effort to translate campaign commitments into programmes with direct impact on residents.
