Ganduje: Tinubu’s Reforms Are Restoring Government’s Capacity to Deliver

For Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the debate over President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is increasingly centred on whether the country can sustain the difficult reforms now being implemented while translating them into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.

Speaking in Kano on Saturday during the inauguration of support groups for President Tinubu, the former Kano State Governor and immediate past National Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), presented the Renewed Hope Agenda as a response to some of Nigeria’s most persistent challenges, from poverty and insecurity to weak institutions, sluggish economic growth and declining confidence in government.

Ganduje argued that the administration inherited an economy and governance system that required significant reforms, insisting that the measures introduced by President Tinubu were designed not merely to address immediate difficulties but to rebuild the government’s capacity to deliver development.

At the heart of his argument was the issue of revenue.

According to Ganduje, the reforms undertaken by the federal government are beginning to improve public revenue, thereby giving the three tiers of government greater financial capacity to execute projects and respond to the needs of their respective populations.

He maintained that increased revenue was already creating room for governments at the federal, state and local levels to pursue more development initiatives, suggesting that stronger public finances could provide the foundation for broader economic and social transformation.

Beyond the economic figures, however, Ganduje portrayed Tinubu’s leadership as an attempt to restore direction and purpose to governance.

He said the President was pursuing policies aimed at strengthening the national economy, encouraging development and improving the welfare of citizens, while describing the Renewed Hope Agenda as a long-term programme intended to confront challenges that have persisted for decades.

The former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also drew political significance from the large crowd that attended the Kano inauguration.

For him, the turnout represented more than the launch of another political support structure. He described it as an indication of growing confidence in the Tinubu administration and its reform programme, as well as a sign that supporters were becoming increasingly organised ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ganduje therefore called on Nigerians to remain supportive of the administration, arguing that continued backing would give President Tinubu the opportunity to consolidate what he described as the gains already recorded and pursue the wider objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He equally urged APC members and supporters to preserve unity within the party and remain committed to its policies, stressing the importance of sustained mobilisation as the country moves towards the 2027 elections.

Ultimately, Ganduje’s message in Kano was both economic and political, and the reforms being pursued by the Tinubu administration should be judged within the broader context of rebuilding the country’s economic capacity, while continued political support, in his view, remains necessary to allow the administration to complete its reform agenda.
