APC leaders rally in Kano as opposition members join ruling party

Top leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Saturday rallied in Kano as hundreds of thousands of new members from opposition political parties were received into the ruling party.

The new members were welcomed during the inauguration of the Kano State Executive Committee of the Tinubu Support Group (TSG), held at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

The gathering attracted prominent APC leaders and political stakeholders, including Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf; his deputy, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo; APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; and the immediate past National Chairman of the party, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Also present were former Kano State Governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau; Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud Bunkure; Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin; Senator Kawu Sumaila; Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa; Hon. James Faleke; and other national and state party leaders.

Among the prominent opposition figures received into the APC were Senator Rufai Hanga, the senator representing Kano Central, and former Senator representing Kano South, Senator Kabiru Gaya.

Several other political leaders, grassroots mobilisers and supporters from opposition parties also announced their defection to the APC during the event.

The development comes as political activities and mobilisation gather momentum across Kano ahead of the 2027 general elections.

APC leaders and stakeholders welcomed the new members, describing the defections as a boost to the party’s organisational strength and grassroots mobilisation in the state.

The event also provided an opportunity for party leaders to rally supporters around the Tinubu administration and reaffirm their commitment to strengthening the APC’s political structure ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Following the inauguration, Governor Yusuf, alongside other dignitaries, commissioned the TSG Head Office in Kano.

Vehicles provided to support the group’s mobilisation activities and operations were also unveiled during the ceremony.

The gathering drew a large crowd of APC supporters, party leaders, stakeholders and political associates from across Kano State, underscoring the increasing pace of political mobilisation in the state as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.
