Ganduje receives Baraka Sani, support groups into APC

Former Kano State Governor and immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has received former Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Baraka Sani, alongside her political allies and support groups into the ruling party.

The delegation was received by Ganduje at Gauyama Hall in his residence in Kano, where the former governor welcomed the development and commended Sani for what he described as her resilience and longstanding contributions to public service and community development in the state.

Ganduje said Sani’s political journey, shaped by experiences in governance and party organisation, had culminated in a strategic realignment aimed at securing structured participation, mutual respect and recognition within the APC.

He stressed the importance of party unity and strategic cohesion as political and campaign activities gather momentum ahead of future electoral contests.

The former governor described the leaders accompanying Sani, including former opposition executives, grassroots mobilisers and agricultural leaders, as experienced political actors whose organisational capacity could contribute to the party’s electoral strength.

Ganduje also assured the delegation that arrangements were being made to facilitate their integration and coordinated engagement with political leaders at both the state and national levels.

Speaking during the gathering, Sani unveiled the structure of the Coalition of Progressive Groups (CPG), an umbrella platform she convenes to bring together various socio-economic and political interests.

She disclosed that the coalition has organisational networks across all 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State.

The coalition comprises 22 commodity associations within the agricultural sector, including national leadership from the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) and wheat farmers’ federations.

It also includes women empowerment networks comprising more than 10,000 beneficiaries of poultry and aquaculture empowerment programmes implemented during her time in the agricultural sector.

The CPG further incorporates youth and tertiary student leaders, including executives of the National Association of Kano State Students (NAKSS) and Student Union Government (SUG) presidents representing 15 tertiary institutions across the state.

Its political component includes serving ward chairmen, including the Kawaji Ward chairman, local government auditors, ex-officio members, former PDP State Youth and Woman Leaders, former candidates in the 2021 and 2023 local council elections, as well as leaders of Atiku support groups in Kano.

Sani said the various groups under the CPG would retain their existing organisational structures from the ward to the state level while operating under her coordination and in line with the strategic direction of the APC leadership.

The event ended with formal presentations by representatives of the agricultural, youth and political groups, who pledged their support for the APC and alignment with the party’s future political objectives.
