An Open Letter to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Federal Republic of Nigeria

We, the undersigned, write to unequivocally raise an alarm on a purported plan by a highly influential person in the Kano Emirate Council to file a case in court and secure an order to arrest us for posting our opinions on social media regarding the issue of the Kano emirship tussle. First, information at our disposal indicates that the influential person intends to use the good office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to obtain the order. It is in view of this that we draw the attention of the AGF to exercise caution in handling any matter related to the ongoing Kano emirate tussle in the event the planned petition reaches his desk. The office of the AGF should not be allowed to be politicized or used by someone to achieve his personal gains. Since the Kano emirate matter is currently before a court of law, the AGF, as the highest-ranking officer in the judicial arm of government, is not expected to interfere in any matter that is sub judice. Second, we have also discovered that after obtaining the court order, the man will use a high-ranking police officer to arrest us. As law-abiding citizens, we are not above the law, and if any authority extends a legal and genuine invitation to us on any matter, we will certainly honor it. However, we should not be denied our fundamental rights to freedom of speech or movement in order to please someone. Therefore, we are drawing the attention of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to this purported plan, which seeks to use police officers to infringe on our constitutionally guaranteed rights. We therefore put the IGP on notice about this purported plan by the influential person to suppress our freedom of expression. Third, the same influential man is reportedly planning to drag the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) into the Kano emirate tussle to achieve his personal objectives. He is said to be working closely with a Kano-based renowned Islamic scholar and Chief Imam of a Juma’at Mosque in an effort to involve the President of the NSCIA in the ongoing matter. With a high sense of humility and respect, we passionately appeal to the President of the NSCIA not to allow himself to be dragged into the tussle. The NSCIA, as the highest and most respected religious body in Nigeria, should not permit itself to be politicized or aligned with this issue. It should remain a neutral religious body, above the fray of political conflicts. Finally, it is our hope and prayer that the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the President of the NSCIA will remain neutral on this matter and allow the court of law to do its job as enshrined in the Nigerian Constitution. Imam Sukairaj Preaches on Parents’ Role as Gateway to Allah’s Blessings

The Chief Imam of ARTV Juma’at Mosque, Hotoro, Sukairaj Hafiz Imam, has urged children to show gratitude and appreciation to their parents for the sacrifices made in bringing them into the world and caring for them during their early years. Delivering his sermon during Friday prayers, Imam Sukairaj emphasized that Islam places a high value on honouring parents, stressing that gratitude to one’s father and mother is inseparable from gratitude to Allah. He quoted from the Qur’an: “And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weakness, and his weaning is in two years. Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination” (Qur’an 31:14). He explained that mothers, in particular, endure hardship during pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing, while fathers consistently sacrifice to provide food, shelter, and education for their children. Imam Sukairaj urged the younger generation to demonstrate appreciation through obedience, prayer, respect, and care for their parents, especially in old age. He warned that neglecting or showing arrogance toward parents is a grave sin that could deprive children of Allah’s blessings. “Your parents carried burdens so you could stand on your feet. They sacrificed their comfort so you could grow. To appreciate them is an act of faith, while to neglect them is a betrayal of divine trust,” he told the congregation. The Imam added that the reminder was especially relevant in today’s society, where modern pressures often erode traditional family values. He stressed the need for children to remain dutiful and connected to their parents despite social and economic challenges.

APSF Reaffirms Commitment to Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

The National Chairperson of the All Progressives Stakeholders Forum (APSF), Dr. Maryam Yunusa Danjaki, has reiterated the group’s commitment to advancing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and strengthening the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of 2027. Speaking at a stakeholders’ meeting of the APC, Dr. Danjaki said the forum was established with the singular mission of deepening internal democracy, promoting integrity, and acting as a bridge between leaders and the people. “Our goal is to continue to be a bridge between leaders and the people and to be instrumental in ensuring the truth. APSF was born with one goal – to strengthen the forces of progress and ensure the foundation of the success of our great party, the All Progressives Congress,” she said. APC’s Public Relations Officer in Kano, Ahmed Aruwa, described Kwankwaso’s remarks as misleading, insisting the party has neither sought nor welcomed his return. He stressed that membership has “proper channels and procedures,” not public demands. Association of Local Government Information Officers Honours Governor Yusuf

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence as the “Best Supportive Governor in Grassroots Information Development and Effective Governance” by the Association of Local Government Information Officers in Nigeria. This was disclosed in a statement signed by Idris Zakariya’u, Director of Public Enlightenment at the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, who said the award was presented during the association’s annual national conference in Abuja on September 24, 2025. Kano Civil Service Commission Approves Promotions, Conversions, and Transfers

The Kano State Civil Service Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, growth, and efficiency in the state workforce following its monthly sitting held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025. This was conveyed in a statement signed by Musbahu Aminu Yakasai, Director of Public Enlightenment, who noted that the decisions reflect the broader commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration to reposition the civil service as the engine room of governance and development, ensuring that the state workforce remains vibrant, motivated, and disciplined. At the meeting, the Commission deliberated extensively on cases of promotion, conversion, transfer, and discipline, taking decisions aimed at safeguarding the integrity and smooth functioning of the state civil service. The Commission also treated 57 transfer of service cases and one disciplinary matter. All cases were carefully reviewed in line with established civil service rules, and appropriate action was taken. Chairperson of the Commission, Hajiya Ladidi Ibrahim Garko, said the sittings are designed to ensure timely attention to the career progression of civil servants and to prevent stagnation in the system. She stressed that the Commission’s guiding principles remain fairness, transparency, and meritocracy. She further urged affected officers to view their promotions, conversions, or transfers as opportunities for greater responsibility, reminding them that the government and people of Kano State expect renewed dedication, efficiency, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties. “The Commission has a dual role of rewarding excellence and enforcing discipline, because a strong civil service must rest on both pillars,” Garko stated. INEC Declares Commencement of Campaigns for FCT Area Council Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the commencement of campaigns by political parties ahead of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council elections scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026. According to the Commission, the decision is in line with Section 94(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 and Item 8 of the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the elections. In a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC disclosed that political parties are now permitted to begin campaigns in public from Wednesday, September 24, 2025, and must conclude by midnight on Thursday, February 19, 2026. He further noted that all parties and candidates must have equal and unhindered access to public facilities for rallies, outdoor advertising, and media campaigns. “For the avoidance of doubt, Section 95(2) of the Electoral Act 2022 prohibits the use of incumbency to the advantage or disadvantage of any party or candidate,” the statement added.
