Cleric Says Ganduje Combines Politics with Islamic Propagation as 378 Embrace Islam in Kano

An Islamic cleric, Malam Lawal Shuaibu, popularly known as Sheikh Triumph, has described former Kano State Governor and immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as the only Nigerian politician who combines politics with the propagation of Islam.

Sheikh Triumph made the remark during a special prayer for peace in Kano State and Nigeria, and for the restoration of normalcy in the country’s security situation, as well as a Da’awah programme organised by the Ganduje Foundation at Muhammad Gauyama Hall, located within Dr. Ganduje’s residence in Kano, where 378 people embraced Islam.

According to the organisers, the new converts comprised 115 males and 263 females.

The cleric said one of the major activities of the Ganduje Foundation is the organisation of Qur’an recitation competitions (Musabaqah) across different categories, describing the initiative as a vital platform for promoting morality and strengthening Islamic values among young people and students.

“You see, Dr. Ganduje is the only politician after the late Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto, who has remained steadfast in propagating the religion of Allah. Many politicians fear political consequences or victimisation, but he has continued to serve humanity through his long-standing foundation,” Sheikh Triumph said.

He further noted that many young people involved in immoral acts often lack proper knowledge of the Qur’an and its teachings, stressing that greater investment in Islamic education would help address moral challenges in society.

The cleric also appealed to Dr. Ganduje to support ongoing efforts to tackle emerging security challenges in parts of Kano State by facilitating additional federal security intervention, while acknowledging the efforts already being made by government authorities.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Da’awah Committee of the Ganduje Foundation, Malam Rabi’u Musa Garko, said Dr. Ganduje’s humanitarian and religious activities reflect the legacy of renowned Islamic reformers, including Sheikh Usmanu Dan Fodio and Sheikh Abdullahi dan Fodio of Gwandu.

According to him, the foundation’s activities are aimed at complementing government efforts by promoting religious values, moral discipline and peaceful coexistence within society.

He added that individuals who understand and practise the teachings of the Qur’an are more likely to become responsible citizens, noting that the foundation’s Da’awah programmes are designed to strengthen peace, discipline and social cohesion through Islamic teachings.

Other Islamic scholars who attended the event commended the Ganduje Foundation for facilitating the conversion of the 378 new Muslims and encouraged the foundation to sustain the initiative, describing it as a noble religious service with enduring spiritual rewards.

Reports presented during the gathering also indicated that three of the new converts had passed away after embracing Islam but before the special prayer programme was held.
