Ganduje Foundation welcomes 378 new Muslims, holds special prayer for Nigeria

The Ganduje Foundation, chaired by former Kano State Governor and immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has facilitated the conversion of 378 people to Islam during a special prayer held at Muhammad Gauyama Hall, located within Dr. Ganduje’s residence in Kano on Saturday.

The new converts comprised 115 men and 263 women, who publicly embraced Islam during the event attended by Islamic scholars from different sects, political leaders and community members.

The prayer gathering, organised by the Ganduje Foundation, forms part of its regular spiritual activities aimed at seeking divine intervention for peace, security and national unity, while also promoting Islamic teachings and peaceful coexistence.

Speaking during the event, Dr. Ganduje said the prayer sessions had been sustained since his days as Deputy Governor of Kano State, stressing that the initiative was established to promote unity, spiritual development and prayers for Nigeria.

He explained that through the Foundation’s Da’awah outreach programmes, many people in rural communities had voluntarily expressed interest in embracing Islam, prompting the Foundation to strengthen its Islamic enlightenment activities.

According to him, insecurity remains a major challenge affecting Nigerians irrespective of religion, stressing that Islam places great emphasis on the sanctity of human life and peaceful coexistence.

“We gather to recite the Holy Qur’an and pray to Almighty Allah to restore lasting peace and security in our country. We believe these prayers will contribute to addressing the security challenges facing the nation,” Ganduje said.

He noted that the Foundation would continue its Da’awah activities by reaching out to more communities interested in learning about Islam, while ensuring that new converts receive proper Islamic education and guidance.

Dr. Ganduje announced that each of the new Muslims would receive a bag of fertiliser to support farming activities, Atamfa materials for women, Shadda materials for men, financial assistance and Islamic books to aid their understanding of the religion.

He added that members of the Foundation’s Da’awah Committee would continue mentoring the converts through regular follow-up visits, Islamic teachings and counselling to strengthen their knowledge and practice of Islam.

The former APC National Chairman also commended Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for promoting peaceful coexistence among different Islamic scholars and religious groups in the state, urging residents to continue supporting initiatives that foster unity and harmony.

He further encouraged the new converts to uphold the values of Islam by embracing honesty, discipline, good character, respect for lawful authority and peaceful coexistence, noting that these principles remain central to national unity and societal development.

Representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the event, the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, commended Dr. Ganduje and the Ganduje Foundation for sustaining the annual prayer gathering and Da’awah programme.

He described the initiative as a significant contribution to promoting religious harmony, moral development and peaceful coexistence, while praying for Allah to continue granting Dr. Ganduje good health, wisdom and strength to sustain the Foundation’s humanitarian and religious activities.

Also speaking, the Senator representing Kano South Senatorial District, Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, announced that Instiqama University would collaborate with the Ganduje Foundation to strengthen Islamic education and enlightenment for the new converts.

He urged Imams and Islamic preachers to avoid defamatory sermons, reminding them that Islam encourages responsible preaching, respect and accountability before Allah.

Earlier, the Deputy Chairman of the Foundation’s Da’awah Committee, Malam Nuhu Gudaji, advised the new Muslims to remain steadfast in their faith and uphold the Islamic values of cleanliness, honesty, morality and good conduct.

He urged the beneficiaries to make productive use of the financial assistance and other items provided by the Foundation by investing in small-scale businesses and agriculture to improve their livelihoods and achieve economic self-reliance.

The event was attended by elder APC stalwart Alhaji Nasiru Aliko Koki, Executive Director (Technical) of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Engr. Umar Abdullahi Umar, former commissioners, former special advisers, former senior special assistants, Islamic clerics, community leaders and other party loyalists, who joined in prayers for Nigeria’s peace, stability and prosperity.
