The Garko Stakeholders Consultative Congress (GSCC) has called on political parties to prioritise competence, integrity, and proven track records in selecting candidates for elective positions, in a bid to ensure credible representation for the people of Garko Local Government Area.
The call was made during a high-level stakeholders’ brainstorming session held in Kano, where the Chairman of the forum, Hamisu Sule Garko, stressed the need to end what he described as the era of mediocre leadership.
He noted that the forum comprising technocrats, public office holders, business leaders, and retired civil servants, is committed to promoting a new standard of political engagement rooted in merit and accountability.
According to him, the appeal to political parties is driven by the need to ensure that candidates emerging from Garko possess the requisite competence and verifiable records of service. He emphasised that leadership quality remains central to achieving sustainable development.

The forum maintained that Garko is endowed with capable individuals who can effectively represent the area at both state and national levels if given the opportunity.
GSCC further stressed its resolve to identify and support individuals of unquestionable character, noting that credible leadership is essential for attracting meaningful development to the area.
The group added that it would continue to engage across party lines to ensure that Garko is no longer sidelined, but represented by leaders who understand the needs and aspirations of its people.
The stakeholders also reiterated their commitment to advocacy aimed at promoting good governance and socio-economic development within Garko Local Government Area and Kano State at large, insisting that only competence-driven leadership can deliver lasting progress.
