The Kano State Government has reiterated its unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers as a vital step toward enhancing productivity and ensuring sustainable development. Declaring open a two-day Industrial Relations Workshop organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kano State Council, in collaboration with the Michael Imoudu Institute of Labour Studies, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf — represented by the Head of Civil Service, Malam Abdullahi Musa — described workers as the backbone of national growth and progress. The governor commended the NLC for organizing the workshop, which aims to prepare retiring civil servants for life after service while promoting industrial harmony. Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to a professional and efficient civil service, citing key interventions, including the payment of ₦27 billion in gratuity arrears, the review of the minimum pension from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000, and the implementation of the ₦71,000 minimum wage. He urged participants to actively engage in the workshop to foster knowledge sharing and align with the state’s blueprint for a more productive workforce. Speaking on behalf of the Director-General of the Michael Imoudu Institute of Labour Studies, Comrade Isa Aremu, Dr. Michael Raji commended Governor Yusuf for his labour-friendly disposition and noted that the workshop would go a long way in promoting peace and stability in the workplace. The Chairman of the NLC, Kano State Council, Comrade Kabiru Ado Inuwa, expressed appreciation to the governor for his continued support to workers, particularly for approving the construction of a ₦280 million multipurpose hall in honour of late Governor Muhammad Abubakar Rimi, who set a precedent by declaring May 1st as a public holiday for workers. He noted that work on the project is ongoing and expressed optimism that it will be completed soon. In his remarks, the Acting Secretary of the NLC, Comrade Hussaini Buda, thanked guests and participants for their active involvement, which contributed to the success of the training. Dignitaries at the event included the Permanent Secretary, Establishment, Office of the Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Salisu Mustapha; Commissioner I, Pension Fund Trustees, Alhaji Hassan Aminu; and Malam Idris Inuwa Yakasai, a retired Acting Permanent Secretary from the Ministry of Information.

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has inaugurated the second phase of the state’s postgraduate scholarship programme, approving sponsorships for 590 students to pursue advanced degrees in Nigerian and foreign universities. According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Wednesday, 350 of the selected scholars will study abroad, while 240 will attend universities within Nigeria. The initiative falls under the 1,001 Postgraduate Foreign and Domestic Scholarship Scheme, a key component of the administration’s education reform agenda. Speaking during the flag-off ceremony in Kano, Governor Yusuf said the programme — originally introduced by former governor Senator  Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso — was revived to equip Kano’s youth with global knowledge and skills needed for development. It is a step toward making Kano a centre of excellence,” the governor said. Yusuf also urged the beneficiaries to remain disciplined, patriotic, and committed to excellence, noting that their success would reflect positively on both Kano State and Nigeria. He added that 31% of the state’s 2025 budget was allocated to education — the highest in the state’s history — reaffirming his administration’s prioritisation of human capital development.

The Kano State Police Command on Wednesday hosted students from Salimat Primary and Secondary School, Sharada, as part of an educational excursion designed to promote community engagement and instill civic values among young Nigerians. This was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, and made available to ‘The Historica Nigeria‘. According to the statement, the students were received at the Bompai Police Headquarters by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, DCP Lawal Mani, who represented the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. He encouraged the students to stay away from crime and become good ambassadors of their school and community. The students toured key departments within the Command, including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where they were addressed by the head of the unit, DCP Abubakar Abdullahi Shika. He spoke on the importance of discipline and the vital role the police play in maintaining peace and order.

The Kano State Police Command has recovered a stolen white Toyota Hilux vehicle attached to the Governor’s Advance Team, which was reported missing at the Government House on November 11, 2025. This was conveyed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, sfipma, mnim, mnips, masis. The statement commended the prompt report made by officials of the Government House and reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to diligent investigation and ensuring justice is served. Following sustained intelligence-led investigations, the suspect, Ya’u Inuwa, a 50-year-old driver in the Government House, was arrested in connection with the theft. The vehicle was recovered at Unguwa Uku, Yan Awaki Quarters, Kano, and is currently in police custody. Security agents attached to the Kano State Government House have arrested a suspect in connection with the theft of a Toyota Hilux belonging to the Deputy Governor’s convoy. ​The suspect, identified as Ya’u Gezawa, an official driver at the Government House, was apprehended on Tuesday by the Government House security personnel, reliable sources confirmed to The Historica Nigeria. Gezawa is currently in custody for further investigation. ​The arrest follows the theft of the official Toyota Hilux from the Government House premises in the early hours of Monday. As previously reported by Daily Nigeria, the vehicle was reportedly driven out through Gate 4 around 5:00 a.m. without being stopped by the security officers on duty. ​Insiders says that the swift arrest was made possible through internal intelligence efforts coordinated by the Government House security unit. ​As of press time, the Kano State Government has yet to issue an official statement regarding both the theft and the arrest.

Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources and Member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). ​In a letter dated November 11, 2025, addressed to the Zaitawa Ward Chairperson, Koki cited persistent leadership crises at the party’s national level as the reason for his departure, stating it made effective representation “difficult, if not impossible.” ​”I have taken this decision because the internal crisis in the party leadership at the centre has made it difficult, if not impossible, for me to continue discharging my duties and provide my people with the desired representation in the House of Representatives,” Koki wrote.   Read Also: Strong Kwankwaso Ally, Kofa Dumps NNPP, Rejoins APC, Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid ​He thanked the NNPP for the platform, calling the experience “invaluable,” and noted that his resignation is in line with relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution and the NNPP Constitution. ​Second Resignation in Days ​Koki’s exit follows closely on the heels of Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, who also left the NNPP just two days prior to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). ​Announcing his move via social media, Jibrin also pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. ​”Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents. The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term,” Jibrin stated.
