Nigeria Immigration, Red Cross Partner on First Aid Training for Kano Officers

The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has entered into a partnership with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Kano State Branch, to provide first aid and emergency response training for its personnel as part of efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of officers.

The Comptroller of Immigration, Kano State Command, Tony Akuneme, disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the Nigerian Red Cross Society during a courtesy visit to his office in Kano.

Akuneme said the command was preparing to graduate about 2,000 newly recruited officers, who would require basic first aid and emergency response training to enhance their ability to respond effectively to emergencies in the course of their duties.

He assured the Red Cross of the command’s full support and pledged to provide the necessary enabling environment for the successful conduct of the specialised training programme.

The Comptroller further revealed that he would communicate the initiative to the headquarters of the Nigeria Immigration Service with a view to expanding the partnership to commands across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Earlier, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Kano State Branch, Alhaji Musa D. Abdullahi, said the visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the Red Cross and the Nigeria Immigration Service, as well as other security agencies operating in the state.

He noted that the Red Cross was fully prepared to equip Immigration personnel with practical first aid and emergency response skills to improve their capacity to provide immediate assistance during emergencies and humanitarian situations.

Abdullahi commended the Kano State Comptroller of Immigration for the warm reception accorded the delegation and expressed appreciation for his commitment to fostering collaboration between the two organisations.

He reaffirmed the Red Cross Society’s readiness to continue supporting security agencies through capacity-building initiatives and humanitarian training programmes.

The meeting ended with both organisations reaffirming their commitment to deepening collaboration in areas of mutual interest, particularly in first aid, emergency response and capacity development for Immigration personnel.
