How to Apply for INEC 2026 Recruitment: Step-by-Step Guide

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced its 2026 recruitment exercise, inviting suitably qualified Nigerians to apply for entry-level positions across Grade Levels (GL) 07, 08, 09, 10 and 12.

According to a notice published on the commission’s recruitment portal, the online application process opened on Monday, July 20, and will close on Monday, July 27.

INEC said the recruitment exercise is aimed at strengthening its institutional capacity in electoral administration, voter registration, data management and election logistics to enhance the effective discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.

The commission stated that applications must be submitted online through its official recruitment portal, where applicants are required to create an account, complete the application form and upload all relevant credentials.

It emphasised that the recruitment process is free of charge and cautioned applicants against submitting false information or forged documents, warning that offenders would be disqualified and may face prosecution.

Available Positions

The vacancies are categorised into three cadres.

Under the Professional Cadre (Grade Levels 09, 10 and 12), available positions include Accountant, Clinical Officer, Lawyer, ICT Officer, Engineer and Quantity Surveyor.

Applicants for these positions must possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from a recognised institution and, where applicable, a master’s degree in the relevant discipline. They are also expected to have relevant professional certifications, including those issued by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) or the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN).

In addition, applicants must possess at least two years of post-qualification experience, an NYSC discharge or exemption certificate, as well as strong analytical, communication, problem-solving and ICT skills.

For the position of Administrative Officer II (Registration Area Officer) on Grade Level 08, applicants must possess a Bachelor’s Degree, Higher National Diploma (HND) or equivalent qualification in the Social Sciences, Humanities or Sciences from a recognised institution.

They must also present an NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate and demonstrate proficiency in data management, record keeping, Microsoft Office applications and other ICT tools.

Applicants seeking the position of Executive Officer (Registration Officer) on Grade Level 07 must possess a National Certificate in Education (NCE) or its equivalent from a recognised institution, with sound knowledge of computer operations, data management, communication and organisational skills.

General Requirements

INEC stated that applicants must also:

• Present a valid certificate of state of origin signed by the Chairman or Secretary of their Local Government Area.
• Be certified physically and mentally fit by a government medical officer.
• Not be above 35 years of age at the time of application.
• Be of good character with no criminal conviction.
• Be willing to serve in any part of the country.
• Demonstrate integrity, discipline and commitment to public service.

How to Apply

Interested applicants are required to visit the commission’s official recruitment portal, create an applicant account using their personal details, email address and National Identification Number (NIN), verify their email address, select their preferred cadre and vacancy, upload all required documents and submit their applications online.

The required documents include a recent passport photograph, birth certificate or declaration of age, O’Level result, Degree/HND/ND/NCE certificate, Local Government identification certificate and NYSC discharge, exemption or exclusion certificate, where applicable.

The commission noted that applicants will not be able to change their selected vacancy after submission and added that only shortlisted candidates will be invited to the next stage of the recruitment exercise.
