The Kano Patriotic Front has reaffirmed its commitment to the overall development of Kano State, with renewed focus on critical sectors including security, education, healthcare, water and sanitation, environmental sustainability, and digital transformation. The Chairman of the association, Major General Ibrahim Sani (retd.), stated this during a press briefing in Kano as part of activities marking the second anniversary of the group’s establishment. Speaking at the event, Major General Sani explained that the Kano Patriotic Front, popularly known as Rundunar Kishin Kano, was formed with the objective of restoring Kano’s historic status as a major economic, commercial, and cultural hub in the sub-Saharan African region. He recalled that Kano once served as a central trade route and one of the largest markets in Africa, but noted that economic setbacks and social challenges have contributed to a decline in that standing over the years. Read Also: End of an Era: Prominent Nigerians and Global Icons We Lost in 2025 According to him, the association’s interventions are centred on security, water and sanitation, education, healthcare delivery, tree planting, and digitisation—an area recently added to its agenda to address the growing demand for digital skills and innovation, particularly in Kano and Jigawa states. Major General Sani disclosed that through the group’s intervention programmes, the Kano Patriotic Front has successfully addressed the menace of Daba in some parts of the Kano metropolis. He said affected youths were engaged through skills acquisition, empowerment initiatives, and job placements. “We engaged the youths in meaningful ventures and empowered many of them. Today, you hardly see Daba activities in areas such as Kofar Mata, Rimi Market, and neighbouring communities where we intervened,” he said. He added that some beneficiaries were also engaged in agricultural activities in Gabasawa Local Government Area and Gano axis, resulting in the production of about 150 kilograms of processed rice valued at approximately N7 million. On infrastructure and social development, the retired military officer said the association has placed strong emphasis on the construction of boreholes in schools, urban centres, and rural communities to improve access to potable water. He further revealed that hundreds of women have been empowered with N25,000 each as start-up capital for small-scale businesses, noting that high-performing beneficiaries were later identified and supported with additional funds. Major General Sani said environmental sustainability remains a key priority, with daily tree-planting campaigns and the establishment of two nursery plantations in Gabasawa and near the Federal Government College, Unguwa Uku. He disclosed that plans are underway to plant 500,000 trees across the 44 local government areas of Kano State and about 25 million trees in total. He explained that the initiative is aimed at addressing the harsh weather conditions and environmental degradation caused by climate change, adding that the trees being distributed are largely economic trees provided free of charge, with some planted under the direct supervision of the association. The chairman also highlighted the inclusion of digitisation in the group’s focus areas, describing it as essential for relevance and competitiveness in the modern era. In another vein, Major General Sani urged Kano residents to promote and preserve the legacy of fallen national heroes, particularly late General Murtala Mohammed, lamenting that many of his memories and contributions are gradually fading. He encouraged the younger generation to emulate the values and character that defined the late leader. He announced that the Kano Patriotic Front’s second anniversary celebration will hold on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at the Kano Chamber of Commerce, Trade Fair Complex, reiterating the association’s resolve to continue contributing to Kano’s socio-economic revival.
