The immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Chairperson of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Monday attended the official unveiling of the “My Nigeria, My Responsibility” campaign at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The national initiative, conceived by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Citizenship and Leadership, Hon. Nasir Bala Ja’oji, is designed to strengthen patriotism and promote responsible civic engagement across the country. With the theme, “Reigniting Patriotism Through Responsible Citizenship & Leadership,” the programme calls on Nigerians to rise above political, ethnic, and religious differences and recommit themselves to unity, love, national service, and collective responsibility. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday held a closed-door meeting with six governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The agenda of the meeting was not disclosed as of the time of filing this report, and the governors declined to speak with journalists after the discussion. Those in attendance included Governors Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Monday Okpebholo of Edo, Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, Usman Ododo of Kogi, Aliyu Sokoto of Sokoto, and Dr. Nasir Idris of Kebbi State. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has relieved the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), Michael Ango, of his duties. The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Friday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communication and Social Media, Lere Olayinka. Following Ango’s removal, the most senior official of the FCT-IRS has been directed to immediately assume leadership of the revenue agency in an acting capacity. The statement recalled that President Bola Tinubu approved Ango’s appointment as Acting Chairman of the FCT-IRS on August 9, 2024, through an announcement by the former Director of Press in the Office of the FCT Minister, Anthony Ogunleye. During Ango’s tenure, the FCT-IRS recorded ₦262 billion in revenue for 2024, surpassing its ₦250 billion target and exceeding the ₦211.1 billion collected in 2023.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has dismissed reports circulating on social media and some broadcast platforms claiming that government schools in the FCT were directed to close by November 28, 2025. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, described the rumour as “false, misleading, and entirely unfounded.” Following the controversy triggered by the unauthorised circular, Minister Wike ordered the suspension of the Mandate Secretary for Education, Dr. Danlami Hayyo. The Acting Head of Service, Mrs. Nancy Sabanti Nathan, has also been directed to discipline the Director of School Services, Mrs. Aishatu Sani Alhassan, in line with civil service rules. Olayinka stressed that no such decision to close schools was taken at any level of the administration and urged parents, students, and school authorities to disregard the report. He reaffirmed that the approved academic calendar remains unchanged. The administration further assured residents of adequate security across schools, noting that the Minister has ordered the resumption of Operation Sweep and other security measures to reinforce safety in the FCT. Responding to journalists, the suspended Mandate Secretary, Hayyo, distanced himself from the circular, insisting it was issued without his knowledge or authorisation. “Seriously, the way you saw the circular is the same way I saw it. I believe it is a wrong circular because the director who signed it has no right to do that,” he said. There is nothing that warrants the closure of schools on or before Friday, 28th. The circular has no merit, no credibility,” he stated. Hayyo urged parents to ignore the misinformation, emphasising that teaching and learning activities were ongoing without disruption. He dismissed claims of insecurity or administrative crisis, reiterating that “there is no cause for alarm. FCT is safe, all our schools are safe.” The FCTA reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining stability within the education sector and noted that disciplinary actions were being taken to address procedural breaches and restore public confidence. The administration advised residents to rely on official communication channels to avoid misinformation.
