Engr. Umar Ganduje Assures Northwest University Kano of Support on Power Supply Challenges

The Rural Electrification Agency (REA) has assured Northwest University Kano (NWUK) of its readiness to explore possible interventions aimed at addressing the institution’s electricity challenges and improving energy access across its campuses.

The assurance was given by the Executive Director (Technical Services) of the Agency, Engr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje, when he received the Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, and members of her delegation during a strategic advocacy visit to the Agency’s headquarters in Abuja.

The visit formed part of the University’s ongoing efforts to secure sustainable energy solutions, strengthen infrastructure, and improve the learning and working environment for its growing population of students and staff.

Speaking during the meeting, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero highlighted the increasing energy demands of the institution and the urgent need for reliable electricity to support teaching, learning, research, innovation, and administrative activities.

She explained that the University was seeking collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency to address persistent power challenges and explore opportunities for long-term energy sustainability within the institution.

According to the Vice-Chancellor, stable electricity remains essential to the University’s vision of delivering quality education and creating a conducive environment for academic excellence.

Professor Bayero subsequently presented a formal request to the Agency, detailing the University’s energy needs and areas requiring intervention.

Responding, Engr. Umar Abdullahi Ganduje welcomed the delegation and commended the University’s proactive approach toward addressing its developmental needs.

He noted that requests relating to power supply remain central to the Agency’s mandate and assured the University that its submission would receive careful consideration.

“Most of the requests we receive are related to power supply, so this is not new to us. We will carefully study your request and explore what can be done to support the University,” he stated.

Engr. Ganduje emphasized the critical role of stable electricity in promoting quality education, research, innovation, and institutional growth, stressing that the Agency remains committed to supporting initiatives aimed at expanding access to reliable and sustainable energy across the country.

He further applauded Professor Amina Salihi Bayero for her commitment to advancing the University’s development agenda through strategic partnerships and sustained stakeholder engagement.

The Executive Director described the Vice-Chancellor’s efforts as commendable, noting that her leadership has demonstrated a clear determination to attract projects and opportunities capable of improving the welfare of both staff and students.

Earlier, the University’s delegation had undertaken a follow-up visit to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) regarding the institution’s proposed solarization project, a key initiative aimed at strengthening energy access and reducing dependence on conventional power sources.

Members of the delegation included the Director of Advancement and Linkages, Professor Abdulmumini Yunusa, the University Protocol Officer, Abubakar Ado Gwaram, and other senior officials of the institution.
