Kano: Gunmen kill APC chairman, resident in Bebeji

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have killed the All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman of Rantan Ward in Bebeji Local Government Area of Kano State, Alhaji Garba Buba, and another resident, Sulaiman Zunduma.

The attackers reportedly invaded Rantan community on Sunday night and opened fire on residents.

A resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Buba sustained gunshot injuries during the attack and later died while receiving treatment in hospital.

“Last night, Sunday, suspected kidnappers attacked our town, Rantan. During the attack, they shot Alhaji Garba Buba, the APC chairman of Rantan Ward, who later died in hospital from the injuries sustained,” the resident said.

He added that another resident, Alhaji Sa’adu, was also shot and injured, while Zunduma was killed during the attack.

Confirming Buba’s death, a family member, Hafsat Garba Rantan, identified him as her paternal uncle and expressed grief over his killing.

The attack occurred hours after gunmen invaded Chiromawa community in Garun Malam Local Government Area, where they abducted the Sarkin Noman Jihar Kano, Alhaji Yusuf Nadabo Chiromawa.

Five people were reportedly injured during the Chiromawa attack, which occurred at about 11 p.m. on Saturday.

The Chairman of Garun Malam LGA, Alhaji Aminu Salisu Kadawa, said the attackers headed to Nadabo’s residence and opened fire indiscriminately.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, identified three of the injured victims as Yusif Nasiru, 20; Salisu Garba, 20; and Ibrahim Hassan, while two others also sustained injuries.

Kiyawa said police tactical and patrol teams, reinforced by personnel from neighbouring divisions, were deployed after receiving a distress call.

According to him, the police, working with community members, vigilantes and the Neighbourhood Watch Corps, pursued the attackers, forcing them to abandon Nadabo and flee into the bushes.

“Consequently, the bandits abandoned the kidnapped victim and fled the scene. Alhaji Yusif Nadabo was rescued unhurt,” Kiyawa said.

The rescued Sarkin Noma and the injured victims were subsequently taken to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

Kadawa said he led local government officials to the hospital and remained there through the night to monitor the condition of the victims.

The latest attack has heightened concerns over the security situation in parts of Kano State, coming shortly after the separate incidents in Rantan and Chiromawa communities.
