Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, the Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources and Member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). ​In a letter dated November 11, 2025, addressed to the Zaitawa Ward Chairperson, Koki cited persistent leadership crises at the party’s national level as the reason for his departure, stating it made effective representation “difficult, if not impossible.” ​”I have taken this decision because the internal crisis in the party leadership at the centre has made it difficult, if not impossible, for me to continue discharging my duties and provide my people with the desired representation in the House of Representatives,” Koki wrote.   Read Also: Strong Kwankwaso Ally, Kofa Dumps NNPP, Rejoins APC, Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid ​He thanked the NNPP for the platform, calling the experience “invaluable,” and noted that his resignation is in line with relevant sections of the 1999 Constitution and the NNPP Constitution. ​Second Resignation in Days ​Koki’s exit follows closely on the heels of Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, who also left the NNPP just two days prior to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). ​Announcing his move via social media, Jibrin also pledged support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid. ​”Today, in a show of solidarity, I was warmly received by thousands of my constituents. The gathering resolved to leave the NNPP/Kwankwasiyya, join the APC, and endorse President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term,” Jibrin stated.

A car thief reportedly sneaked into the Kano State Government House in the early hours of Monday and made away with a Toyota Hilux van belonging to the deputy governor’s convoy. According to reports, the suspect gained access to the premises through Gate 4 around 5 a.m. and drove the vehicle out through the main gate unnoticed. Sources revealed that CCTV footage later reviewed by security operatives confirmed how the intruder maneuvered within the premises before escaping with the vehicle. Another source disclosed that the deputy governor’s office complex is usually patrolled only during official hours or when the deputy governor is present, a lapse that may have contributed to the incident. It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Shafiu Sharp-Sharp, was questioned and briefly detained as part of the ongoing investigation. “Already, an investigation has been launched. The driver is being interrogated, while the Chief Security Officer (CSO) is analyzing the CCTV footages. The description of the vehicle has also been shared with security agents to facilitate its recovery and the arrest of the suspect,” the source added. As of press time, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s spokesman, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, did not respond to calls or messages from journalists regarding the incident. (Daily Nigerian)

A Kano-based lawyer and politician, Barrister Salisu Salisu Umar, has accused the Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, of deliberately frustrating the confirmation of Abdullahi Garba Ramat as Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC). Addressing journalists in Kano, Barr. Umar alleged that Senator Barau’s opposition stems from envy and a lack of commitment to the revival of Kano’s moribund industries and youth development efforts. “Most of our industries have collapsed due to poor electricity supply, and many women’s small-scale businesses have also suffered. Instead of supporting solutions that could revive these sectors, Barau is working to ensure Ramat is not confirmed. His actions show he doesn’t want Kano to progress,” Umar stated. Read Also: Ganduje and Barau: The Power Duo Shaping Kano and National Politics He described Ramat’s nomination as a symbol of hope for young Nigerians, particularly those from Kano, warning that attempts to block his confirmation would be viewed as opposition to the advancement of youth and the state’s industrial revival. “If Ramat loses the NERC chairmanship, we will mobilize against Barau politically — whether in Kano North, South, or Central — even if he contests for governor or president. We will ensure he is retired politically,” Umar vowed. The lawyer further criticized Barau’s approach to Kano’s federal appointments, describing it as self-serving. He said while many positions given to Kano indigenes were minor, the NERC chairmanship was one that could genuinely benefit the people, making Barau’s resistance particularly disappointing.

The Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) has announced a new partnership initiative with the Kano Science Secondary Schools Old Students Association (KASSOSA) Class of 2021 General Chapter aimed at fostering collaboration in health education, community outreach, and youth development. The Director General of DMCSA Pharm. Gali Sule made this known when he received the executive leadership of the association when they paid him a courtesy visit at the Agency’s headquarters in Kano. Welcoming the delegation, the Director General commended the association for its commitment to fostering unity and development among alumni of science secondary schools across the state, noting that the passion and organizational spirit demonstrated by the young graduates reflect the values of excellence and service instilled by Kano’s science education system. “It is encouraging to see young people, especially science graduates, showing initiative and a sense of responsibility toward community development and contribute positively to society. The Agency will continue to support educational and youth-driven initiatives that align with our mandate. The DMCSA believes in supporting youth-driven initiatives that align with the state’s vision for human capital development and public health improvement,” the Pharm. Sule said.
