President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a major cabinet reshuffle, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, alongside the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Umar Dangiwa.
The development was announced in a memo issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
According to the directive, Edun has been asked to hand over to Taiwo Oyedele, who will now assume office as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele previously served as Minister of State for Finance.
Similarly, Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as ministerial nominee and minister-designate for the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, while Dangiwa has been directed to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry pending further confirmation.

The memo stipulated that all handover processes must be concluded on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Explaining the decision, Akume said the changes were aimed at strengthening cohesion and synergy within the cabinet, as well as enhancing the delivery of economic policies under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians,” the statement read.
He added that the President exercised his constitutional powers in effecting the reshuffle in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The President expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours.
Akume further noted that the administration remains committed to continuous reforms, stressing that the process of reinvigoration within the cabinet will be sustained.
