Jigawa Governor Appoints Lawan Muhammad Sani 17th Emir of Gumel

The Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has approved the appointment of Lawan Muhammad Sani as the 17th Emir of Gumel.

Lawan succeeds his late father, Alhaji Ahmed Muhammad Sani, who died on Thursday, September 3, at the age of 85 after a 46-year reign over the Gumel Emirate.

The appointment was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Bala Ibrahim.

According to the state government, Governor Namadi approved the appointment following recommendations from the Gumel Emirate Council Kingmakers, chaired by the Wazirin Gumel, Adamu Nasoro, and the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs.

The Council of Chiefs comprises the Emirs of Hadejia, Kazaure, Ringim and Dutse.

Until his appointment, the new emir held the traditional title of Chiroman Gumel and served as Director of Cyber Security at the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

Governor Namadi commended the Gumel Emirate Council Kingmakers and the State Council of Chiefs for their guidance and role in the selection process.

The governor congratulated the newly appointed emir and wished him a peaceful, successful and impactful reign.

Namadi also urged the new monarch to uphold the values and traditions of the Gumel Emirate while contributing to the development and progress of the state and the nation.

The appointment comes only days after the death of the late Emir Ahmed Muhammad Sani, whose 46-year reign marked one of the longest periods of traditional leadership in the region.
