The Credible People’s Movement (CPM), a political advocacy group championing quality leadership in Kano, has called on residents and political actors to put the state’s interest above personal or partisan considerations in order to address the challenges confronting it. Chairman of the association, Musaddiq Tofa, made the call in an interview with journalists during a youth sensitisation campaign held in Kano. Tofa said the ongoing political tension in the state requires individuals of integrity to stop withdrawing from the political space, noting that meaningful change can only occur when credible people actively participate in the system. Our challenges have gone beyond mere discussions in public forums. They require deliberate action,” he said. He stressed that since political structures produce the leaders who shape society, there is a need to reform and strengthen the system rather than abandon it. “We must not continue to shun the system and allow bad eggs to dominate while we remain at the receiving end. Silence and non-participation are part of what brought us to this situation,” Tofa reiterated. The CPM Chairman added that the movement will not relent in its efforts to sensitise youths, political actors and the general public on the importance of a people-centred government rooted in sincerity and accountability. He explained that the Credible People’s Movement is committed to giving grassroots communities a voice, listening where others overlook, and taking action where others hesitate, in line with its guiding philosophy.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, has organised a one-day capacity-building workshop for its members as part of activities marking the 2025 Press Week. The training, held at the NUJ Press Centre, forms part of a week-long programme designed to enhance professionalism and strengthen media practice in the state. In his welcome address, the State Council Chairman, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, said the workshop was aimed at rebuilding members’ capacity, particularly in areas relating to media law, safety, and journalistic ethics. He added that participants were carefully selected from various media organisations across Kano State. He also expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for its continuous support to the council. Delivering a paper on *Safety Tips in Journalism*, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, Mustafa Muhammad, spoke extensively on how journalists can protect themselves while covering stories in hostile or high-risk environments. Other resource persons included Adamu Salisu of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Kano Office, who lectured on the *Code of Ethics for Nigerian Journalists*, and veteran broadcaster Amina Yahaya Deen, who presented a session on *Tools for Effective Translation*. In separate goodwill messages, the Managing Director of Kano State Radio Corporation, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Rano, and the Managing Director of Hikima Radio, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Muhammad Inya, commended the NUJ for prioritising professional development. A total of 50 participants drawn from conventional and social media platforms across the state attended the training.

The Kano State Government has announced that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has been formally nominated for a Distinguished Award for Visionary Leadership and Public Service Sector Reform at the forthcoming Nigeria Excellence Awards in Public Service (NEAPS). The nomination was conveyed through a letter from M. S. Danjuma, Permanent Secretary (General Service Office), Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The announcement was signed by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, obtained by ‘The Historica Nigeria‘ on Sunday. The nomination is widely regarded as a testament to Governor Yusuf’s dedication to serving the people of Kano with integrity, vision, and innovation, as well as an affirmation of the far-reaching impact of his reforms across key sectors of the state.
