He noted that the initiative aligns with the vision of the administration of Abba Kabir Yusuf, which places strong emphasis on youth development, digital innovation, and inclusive governance as key drivers of sustainable growth in the state. Addressing the youths, Waiya reiterated that the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Yusuf remains unwavering in its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote development and empowerment. He assured participants that the administration is ready to invest in programs that enhance youth productivity, innovation, and digital engagement. The National President of the Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education (SRCOE), Kumbotso Alumni Association, Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u Gwaram, has outlined a strategic direction aimed at strengthening alumni unity and mobilizing support for the development of the institution. Dr. Gwaram made this known during the maiden National Delegates Congress of the association on Sunday in Kano, describing the gathering as a defining moment in the history of the alumni body. He explained that the congress marks a deliberate effort to resuscitate and consolidate the alumni structure into a cohesive national platform capable of driving meaningful engagement and long-term institutional support. According to him, the formation of a unified national body remains critical in aligning alumni across various class sets and professional backgrounds toward a shared vision of progress for their alma mater. He further revealed that sustained engagements with the college management and other critical stakeholders have resulted in the development of a formal constitution and the successful registration of the association with relevant regulatory bodies. Dr. Gwaram stressed that alumni associations globally play pivotal roles in advancing educational institutions, citing examples such as Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where alumni-driven initiatives significantly contribute to research funding, infrastructure development, and institutional growth. He added that similar contributions have been recorded in Nigerian institutions, including Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and University of Ibadan (UI), reinforcing the importance of alumni participation in sustaining educational excellence. In this regard, he reiterated the commitment of SRCOE alumni to contribute their quota through structured interventions, including financial support, project execution, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving the college’s overall standard. As part of immediate priorities, Dr. Gwaram disclosed plans to launch an appeal fund for the establishment and renovation of a National Secretariat, which will serve as a central coordination hub for the association’s activities. He also commended the college management, stakeholders, and members of various class chapters for their commitment and cooperation, noting that such collective efforts remain essential in achieving the association’s long-term objectives. Dr. Gwaram reiterated that the alumni body will sustain engagement with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that its contributions translate into measurable improvements within the institution.

Following earlier reports on the absence of the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Hawan Nasarawa event, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibril Isma’il Falgore, has received the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, on his behalf at the Government House. The governor was away in Lagos attending the Progressive Governors Forum meeting, which accounted for his absence. A statement posted by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Ibrahim Adam, in his verified social media handle confirmed that top government officials were present at the reception, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief of Staff, commissioners, local government chairmen, and other senior officials. Historically, Hawan Nasarawa is a significant cultural Durbar procession in Kano State, held on the second day after both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The event serves as a formal homage by the Emir of Kano to the State Governor at the Government House (Africa House). Traditionally, the Emir departs from the palace at Kofar Kudu in the early hours of the morning, passing through key areas such as Durumin Zungura, Kofar Nasarawa, Sabon Gari, and Fagge, where residents from diverse communities come out to pay homage. However, this year’s procession witnessed notable changes, as the Kano State Government restricted the use of horses due to heightened security concerns and ongoing emirate-related developments, replacing the traditional horseback ride with a motorcade. In addition, the Emir did not make the customary stop at the Nasarawa Palace, which is currently occupied by Aminu Ado Bayero. Instead, he proceeded directly to the Government House for the official engagement. Hawan Nasarawa remains highly symbolic, reflecting the enduring relationship between the traditional institution and the state authority. The event typically concludes with the Emir addressing the government on community issues, followed by an official response from the state.

By Umar Idris Shuaibu, Kano Former Chairman of Kano Municipal Council and Senior Legislative Aide to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Fa’izu Alfindiki, has extended warm greetings to Muslim faithful on the occasion of Eid-el-Fitr, urging Nigerians to uphold the virtues of compassion, unity, and mutual respect. In a goodwill message marking the end of Ramadan, Alfindiki described the holy month as a period of spiritual renewal, self-discipline, and increased devotion to Allah, noting that its lessons should guide daily conduct beyond the fasting period. He emphasised that the essence of Ramadan lies in promoting love, generosity, and empathy, particularly towards the less privileged, stressing that such values are essential for building a just and inclusive society. The former Kano Municipal Chairman also highlighted the importance of national unity, calling on Nigerians to rise above ethnic and religious differences in the collective interest of peace and development. The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting families affected by last year’s incident in Edo State, assuring that efforts to secure compensation are ongoing. The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, disclosed this during a visit by a government delegation to the Bunkure Palace in Kano. He explained that the visit was aimed at further sympathising with families of those who lost their lives while returning home for the Sallah holiday. Waiya stated that the state government is actively engaging the Edo State Government to ensure that appropriate compensation is paid to the victims and their families, noting that the process is on course. He recalled that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had earlier approved the distribution of financial support and food items to those affected. According to him, families of the 16 slain victims were given N300,000 each, while the 13 survivors who sustained injuries received N200,000 each. In addition, beneficiaries were provided with two bags of rice each. The Commissioner noted that the gesture reflects the governor’s commitment to easing the hardship faced by the victims’ families, especially after earlier delays caused by some officials. He urged the families to remain patient, assuring them that the government remains committed to their welfare and that the children of the deceased will continue to receive necessary support. Responding, the District Head of Bunkure, Aminu Isah Umar, expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for the intervention. He noted that the support would go a long way in assisting the affected families and alleviating their suffering.
