Kano Polytechnic, NDLEA Kano to empower rehabilitated drug offenders with skills
Kano State Polytechnic, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, are set to collaborate on a skills acquisition programme aimed at empowering rehabilitated persons and individuals currently in the custody of the Agency.
The initiative, to be implemented through the Polytechnic’s Continuing Professional Development Centre (CPDC), is designed to equip beneficiaries with practical and employable skills that will enable them to become self-reliant, earn legitimate livelihoods and successfully reintegrate into society.
The partnership is also expected to reduce the likelihood of rehabilitated persons returning to drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
The proposed collaboration was discussed during an interactive session between officials of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command and the management of the CPDC at the Central Administration of Kano State Polytechnic.

He commended the Commander of the NDLEA Kano Strategic Command, CN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal, for his commitment to tackling drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Kano State.
Abdullahi explained that the engagement followed an earlier visit to the NDLEA Command, where both parties explored areas of collaboration to complement the efforts of the Kano State Government in addressing drug-related challenges.
He expressed optimism that the Director-General of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd.), and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf would witness either the commencement or graduation ceremony of the first batch of trainees under the programme.

According to him, providing practical skills would offer beneficiaries legitimate means of livelihood and reduce the possibility of relapse into drug abuse or trafficking.
He noted that the State Commander had delegated him and other senior officers to engage with the CPDC management and work out modalities for implementing the programme.
ACN Mu’awiya further highlighted various initiatives introduced by the Kano Strategic Command under the leadership of CN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal to combat drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the state.
He also commended the management of Kano State Polytechnic, led by the Rector, Dr. Abubakar Umar Farouk, FCA, for strengthening skills development centres and promoting practical and entrepreneurship training.
At the end of the meeting, the Director of CPDC led the NDLEA delegation on an inspection tour of some of the Polytechnic’s Skills Development Centres, where officials assessed facilities and vocational training programmes available for the proposed collaboration.
