There are strong indications that Dominic Iorfa is preparing to contest for the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) at the next election, with his reported ambition coming amid renewed scrutiny of his record in football administration.

Iorfa, who is regarded as one of Nigeria’s experienced football administrators, has recently attracted attention following a reported decision by Barau FC to withdraw from the 2026 Gusau/Ahlan Pre-Season Tournament in Katsina.

The tournament, organised annually to provide clubs with an opportunity to prepare for the new football season, is associated with NFF board member Sharif Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan.

The decision to withdraw Barau FC has reportedly generated questions about the club’s relationship with the tournament organisers and sections of the NFF leadership, although the specific reasons behind the withdrawal remain unclear.

Iorfa’s reported interest in the NFF presidency is also likely to bring renewed attention to his previous roles in football administration, including his time with clubs such as Remo Stars and Lobi Stars.

Questions have been raised over the circumstances surrounding his departures from those clubs, as well as the overall achievements of teams under his administration.

Among the issues likely to attract attention is the number of major domestic titles won by NPFL clubs during his respective periods in management, including success in the President Federation Cup.

There have also been concerns and allegations regarding his management style at Barau FC, including claims relating to the dismissal of some members of staff and the appointment of individuals regarded by some as his associates.

However, these allegations have not been independently established, and Iorfa’s response will be important in clarifying the circumstances surrounding the various claims.

Attention has also been drawn to Senator Barau I. Jibrin, proprietor of Barau FC, with calls for him to carefully review developments surrounding the club’s administration and take appropriate steps where necessary to protect the club’s interests and future.

Iorfa’s reported ambition to lead the NFF could make his administrative record, leadership style and relationships within Nigerian football important issues as preparations for the next federation election gather momentum.

His relationship with the current NFF leadership, headed by Ibrahim Musa Gusau, could also become a significant factor in the unfolding political dynamics ahead of the election.

Iorfa’s reaction to the issues raised in this report is being awaited. Efforts to reach him for comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
