‘It’s a road, not a layout’ – Wike orders demolition of 30 Abuja buildings
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate demolition of about 30 buildings allegedly constructed illegally along the Ring Road III corridor in the Karsana area of Abuja.
Wike gave the directive on Thursday during an inspection of ongoing infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory.
The minister was inspecting the construction of Arterial Road N16, linking Ring Road II to Ring Road III, when the Acting Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), Richard Dauda, drew his attention to the structures.
Dauda informed the minister that about 30 buildings had encroached on the Ring Road III corridor and were directly obstructing the path of the road project.

Wike subsequently directed the Department of Development Control to demolish the structures immediately, insisting that illegal developments would not be allowed to obstruct critical infrastructure or undermine the Abuja Master Plan.
“We’ll have to demolish this right now. How can it be like this? It’s a road and not a layout,” Wike said.
The minister described Arterial Road N16, particularly its connection through Ring Road III, as a major infrastructure project, assuring residents that the project would be completed by December.
Wike also inspected the ongoing construction of the five-kilometre Zaudna-Kaba-Kagini Road, where he expressed satisfaction with the response of residents to the project.
He described the excitement among residents as a reflection of the impact of infrastructure development on communities, saying it represented the “true essence of governance.”
The minister also inspected the Magistrate Court under construction in Garki and expressed confidence that the project would be completed by December.
“We’re well impressed that the promises made to the people are being fulfilled. Again, it’s what the Renewed Hope Agenda is all about. So we’re happy,” Wike said.
