Kano Govt Moves to Boost Professionalism in Public Information Management

The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to strengthening ethical standards and professional excellence in public information management, as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf declared open a two-day capacity-building workshop for Information and Zonal Information Officers across the 44 local government areas of the state. The governor, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, made this known at the opening ceremony held at Babale Suites in Kano. The workshop is themed “Safeguarding Ethical and Professional Standards in Public Information Management: The Role of Information Officers.” Governor Yusuf described investment in human capital development as a critical driver of effective public administration, noting that continuous training enhances skills, boosts morale, and improves productivity, especially in a rapidly evolving technological environment. He emphasized that his administration would continue to prioritize training and retraining programmes at local, national, and international levels to equip public servants with the necessary knowledge and skills for efficient service delivery. He urged them to remain proactive in reporting grassroots developments to support responsive governance and sustainable development. Governor Yusuf also called on public officials at all levels to cooperate with Information Officers to enhance public access to government policies, programmes, and activities, thereby strengthening democratic processes. He assured participants of the government’s commitment to providing modern working tools and a conducive environment to enable them to discharge their duties effectively. The governor also commended the Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs for organizing the workshop, noting its potential impact on improving public communication. He specifically praised the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, for his dedication and innovative initiatives aimed at improving the conditions of public communicators within the state civil service. Earlier in his remarks, the Commissioner, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, welcomed participants and described the workshop as a demonstration of the ministry’s commitment to excellence in information dissemination and professional development. He expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for his continued support for capacity-building initiatives, noting that several training programmes conducted under the current administration have significantly improved the performance and productivity of Information Officers. Waiya stressed the relevance of the workshop’s theme, stating that it would enhance participants’ understanding of ethical standards, transparency, and modern digital communication strategies necessary for effective information management. APC Stakeholders Endorse Yusuf Buhari for House of Reps Seat in Katsina

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sandamu Local Government Area of Katsina State have endorsed Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, as the party’s sole candidate for the Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua Federal Constituency. The endorsement followed a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Sandamu Local Government Secretariat, attended by elected officials and political appointees from the area. Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman of Sandamu Local Government Area, Usman Na Lado, said the decision to endorse Yusuf Buhari was unanimous and based on merit. Na Lado further disclosed that the meeting also endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Dikko Umar Radda as sole candidates for the presidency and governorship positions, respectively, ahead of the 2027 general elections. Tinubu Postpones Ogun Visit, Heads to Jos Over Plateau Killings

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned trip to Ogun State and will instead travel to Jos, the Plateau State capital, to commiserate with victims of recent attacks. The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. Tinubu was earlier scheduled to visit Iperu, Ogun State, on Thursday to flag off operations at the Gateway International Cargo Airport. “Instead, he will head to Jos, capital of Plateau State, to commiserate with the government and people of the state over the recent gun attacks, which claimed the lives of innocent citizens,” the statement read. The visit follows renewed violence in Jos, where gunmen reportedly launched a deadly attack on the Anguwan Rukuba community on Sunday, killing several residents and injuring others. Although the curfew was later relaxed to allow limited movement, fresh tension was reported as hoodlums allegedly exploited the window to attack motorists and passersby in parts of the city. The violence also disrupted academic activities, prompting the University of Jos to order the evacuation of students from hostels over safety concerns. From Plateau State, the President is expected to proceed to Lagos to observe the Good Friday holiday. The statement added that Tinubu would now visit Ogun State on Saturday, April 4, to commission the cargo airport and inaugurate two commercial aircraft designated for export and import operations. He is also expected to inaugurate the new Federal Operations Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service, along with its operational vehicles. During his stay in Lagos, the President will commission key infrastructure projects executed by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The projects include the Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System building, a multi-agency complex named after the President, and a school complex. Tinubu is further scheduled to visit Bayelsa State on April 10 to inaugurate projects completed by Governor Duoye Diri before returning to Abuja. The visit forms part of a four-state tour by the President.

The University of Jos has directed all students to immediately vacate its hostels following heightened security tensions in Jos, the Plateau State capital. The directive, issued on Wednesday, follows fresh violence reported in parts of the city earlier in the day, during which several people were allegedly attacked and killed. The institution said the decision was taken after a careful assessment of the prevailing security situation, prioritising the safety of students and staff. In a circular signed by the Deputy Registrar (Information and Public Relations), Emmanuel Madugu, on behalf of the Registrar, the university disclosed that the evacuation exercise would be carried out in two phases. The university management assured that adequate security measures have been put in place to safeguard hostels and other campus facilities during the evacuation period. The Vice-Chancellor also reassured stakeholders that efforts are ongoing to explore all available options to ensure the safety and stability of the institution. The development comes days after a deadly attack in the Anguwan Rukuba community, which resulted in multiple fatalities and heightened tension across the state. The incident had earlier prompted authorities to impose a curfew in Jos North Local Government Area and led to the postponement of examinations at the university.

2027: INEC de-lists David Mark-led ADC NWC

The Independent National Electoral Commission has resolved to remove the names of the National Working Committee of the African Democratic Congress led by David Mark from its official portal, in compliance with a Court of Appeal order. INEC disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, stressing that it would maintain the status quo ante bellum pending the determination of a substantive suit before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The decision follows a protracted leadership crisis within the ADC, with rival factions led by Nafiu Bala Gombe and Mark laying claim to the party’s national structure. According to the commission, the appellate court, in a judgment delivered on March 12, 2026, directed all parties to maintain the existing situation before the dispute arose and refrain from actions that could prejudice the outcome of the case. INEC explained that although the names of the current NWC members were uploaded on its portal on September 9, 2025, the action was taken after the suit had already been filed on September 2, 2025. It noted that, in line with the court order, the names would now be removed pending the resolution of the matter. “Since the names of the current National Working Committee members led by Senator David Mark were uploaded on 9th September, 2025 by INEC (7 days after the suit was instituted), the names would be removed from the INEC portal pursuant to the order of the Court of Appeal to maintain the status quo ante bellum until the matter is decided by the trial court,” INEC said. The commission also rejected a request by Bala’s camp to recognise him as acting national chairman, stating that granting such a request would violate the court’s directive. INEC further announced that it would suspend all engagements with the party’s factions, including monitoring of meetings, congresses, or conventions, until the court delivers a final ruling. “The Commission shall not receive any further communication or deal with any of the parties or groups pertaining to the affairs of the party,” it added. The electoral body reiterated its commitment to neutrality and strict adherence to judicial pronouncements, urging political actors to avoid actions capable of disrupting preparations for the 2027 general elections. The leadership tussle in the ADC has triggered a series of legal battles, with both factions approaching the courts to assert control over the party’s structure. (Punch)

Speaking after the development at the National Assembly in Abuja, Dr. Ganduje said the increasing number of defections into the APC reflects the party’s growing strength and national appeal. “This is a plus to our great party, APC, as the number of House of Representatives members continues to increase on a daily basis. We have seen it before in Kano, where NNPP members cross-carpeted to APC. We already have a senator and some members of the House of Representatives, and today we have received another batch, nine members from NNPP to APC,” he said. He described the move as a moment of celebration, expressing confidence in the party’s future electoral prospects. On the party’s recent national convention, Dr. Ganduje explained that the adoption of consensus candidates helps to reduce internal friction. “Consensus has two stages, that is consensus and affirmation. It is similar to an election because it reduces friction, unnecessary disagreements, and tendencies that could lead to anti-party activities,” he noted. Meanwhile, at least eight members of the House of Representatives from Kano State formally announced their defection from the NNPP to the APC on the floor of the National Assembly. Tinubu Meets Ganduje, Badaru in Separate Aso Rock Consultations

By Umar Idris Shuaibu President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday received former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and former Minister of Defence, Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar, in separate meetings at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Both visits were held behind closed doors at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, with neither of the political figures disclosing the purpose of their engagements with the President. Correspondents observed Dr. Ganduje, dressed in babanriga, departing the State House at about 4:15 p.m., while Badaru left roughly 15 minutes later at 4:30 p.m., suggesting that the meetings were separate consultations rather than a joint audience. Ganduje served as APC National Chairman from August 2023 until July 2025, when he stepped down from the position. He was subsequently succeeded by Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who was elected as substantive chairman during the party’s 4th Elective National Convention held on March 27, 2026, at Eagle Square, Abuja. Political observers believe the separate meetings may not be unconnected with ongoing consultations within the APC following its recent national convention, as well as possible strategic alignments ahead of future political engagements. Both Ganduje and Badaru remain influential figures within the ruling party and are regarded as key allies of President Tinubu since the formation of the APC in 2013.
