APC clinches Dawakin Kudu Assembly seat in by-election

The All Progressives Congress has won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency seat in the Kano State House of Assembly by-election, with its candidate, Hussain Yusuf-Datti, polling 22,890 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Yusuf-Datti the winner after the collation of results on Saturday in Dawakin Kudu.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Ibrahim Tajo-Suraj, said the APC candidate defeated his closest challenger, Habib Hamisu of the Peoples Redemption Party, who scored 270 votes.

Abdullahi Adamu of the Peoples Democratic Party polled 108 votes, while Bala Mohammed-Sani of the Action Democratic Party secured 89 votes.

Aliyu Abdullahi of the All Peoples Party scored 53 votes, while Abubakar Yahya-Mohammed of the Labour Party polled 39 votes.

Declaring the result, Tajo-Suraj said Yusuf-Datti had satisfied the requirements of the law and secured the highest number of votes cast.

He subsequently declared the APC candidate the winner and returned him elected.

The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant Dawakin Kudu State Constituency seat following the movement of the former occupant, Shuaibu Rabi’u Nagoggo, popularly known as Abba Gano, to the House of Representatives after winning the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election.

With the result, Yusuf-Datti is set to represent the Dawakin Kudu constituency in the Kano State House of Assembly.
