Kogi police rescue all 21 abducted victims, including 15 corps members

The Kogi State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of all 21 persons abducted in Ofu Local Government Area, including 15 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The latest development comes after security forces earlier rescued 10 Corps Members from the Egume Forest as part of an ongoing operation to locate and recover the abducted victims.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, said sustained and intelligence-led operations involving the Nigeria Police Force, Military, Department of State Services (DSS) and other supporting security and auxiliary forces resulted in the rescue of the remaining victims.

According to the Command the operations were intensified around the Egume axis and adjoining forests, putting sustained pressure on the suspected kidnappers and forcing them to abandon their victims and flee the area.

The 21 rescued victims are currently receiving necessary medical attention and undergoing debriefing.

The Police said one of the victims sustained a gunshot injury to the right leg and is receiving treatment, while no fatality was recorded during the rescue operation.

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, psc, mni, commended the security personnel involved in the operation for their gallantry, professionalism and resilience.

He also appreciated residents of the affected communities for their cooperation and timely provision of credible information, which the Command said contributed to the success of the rescue operation.

The Police Command said operations remain ongoing to track down and arrest the perpetrators and bring them to justice.

It urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant and warned against circulating unverified information that could compromise ongoing security operations.
