Kogi police rescue 10 corps members from Egume forest

The Kogi State Police Command has announced the successful rescue of 10 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members from the Egume Forest in Ofu Local Government Area of the state.

The victims were rescued during a coordinated operation involving personnel of the Police, Military, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security and auxiliary forces.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, said the operation was intelligence-driven and sustained, with security forces working to secure the safe recovery of the kidnapped victims and apprehend those responsible.

The Command said the operation remains ongoing, as security personnel continue to comb the area in search of other victims who may still be in captivity.

“The operation is still ongoing, with the potential to rescue all the kidnapped victims,” the statement said.

According to the Command, security forces have intensified operations around the affected area while simultaneously pursuing the perpetrators.

The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the personnel involved in the operation for their gallantry, professionalism and resilience.

He also appreciated residents of the affected communities for providing timely and credible information, which the police said has remained crucial to the success of the operation.

The Command urged members of the public to remain calm and vigilant and to report suspicious movements or any information that could assist security agencies in locating the remaining victims and apprehending the perpetrators.

The Kogi State Police Command assured residents that all available operational resources are being deployed to ensure the safe recovery of the remaining victims and the arrest of those responsible for the attack.
