The Kano State Transition Committee of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the purported presentation of Alhaji Ibrahim Al Amin Little as the party’s governorship candidate, describing the exercise as illegal, unconstitutional and of no effect.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Kano State ADC Transition Committee, Comrade Sa’idu Bello, and made available to ‘The Historica Nigeria’.

The committee alleged that the announcement, which included the presentation of what it described as a purported Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination form to Alhaji Ibrahim Al Amin Little, was organised by an unrecognised caretaker committee allegedly led by Hajiya Naja’atu.

According to the committee, the exercise violated the provisions of the party’s constitution, internal regulations and established procedures for the nomination of candidates.

It maintained that the National Executive Council (NEC) of the ADC had neither recognised the purported caretaker committee nor taken any decision regarding the party’s governorship candidate for Kano State.

The committee further argued that the official announcement of candidates for the governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly elections remains the responsibility of the party’s National Headquarters working through the recognised state leadership.

It also described the caretaker committee behind the announcement as an illegal body, alleging that it has not been recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or relevant security agencies.

The Transition Committee stated that the individual who constituted the caretaker committee had been advised to dissolve it in the interest of peace and stability within the Kano State chapter of the party.

According to the statement, members of the party in Kano State are awaiting a formal decision from the ADC National Headquarters regarding the constitution of a legitimate caretaker committee as well as the official release of successful candidates for all elective positions.

The committee urged party supporters, stakeholders and members of the public to disregard what it described as “baseless propaganda” surrounding the purported candidate presentation and remain calm while awaiting official directives from the party’s National Headquarters.

It reiterated its commitment to upholding the constitution of the African Democratic Congress and ensuring that due process is followed in all party affairs.
