A delegation from Kano State is participating in the ongoing 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) in Geneva, Switzerland, aimed at discussing global labour issues and advancing strategies for improving the world of work.
The conference, organised by the International Labour Organization (ILO), brings together government officials, employers and workers’ representatives from across the world to deliberate on emerging labour challenges and opportunities.
The Kano State delegation is led by the Head of Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, and includes the Permanent Secretary, Establishment Directorate, Alhaji Salisu Mustapha, as well as three representatives of labour unions in the state.
The conference is focusing on critical issues affecting workers globally, including labour standards, decent work, social protection, workplace safety, social dialogue and sustainable employment opportunities.

Speaking on the importance of the conference, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota said the event provides Kano State with a valuable opportunity to learn from international best practices and explore innovative approaches to strengthening labour relations, workforce development and public service delivery.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to promoting workers’ welfare, professionalism and productive industrial relations across the state.
According to her, participation in the conference will also enhance knowledge-sharing and strengthen partnerships that can contribute to improved labour policies and human resource management in Kano State.
The Head of Service noted that the conference offers a unique platform for governments, employers and workers to collaborate on policies that support inclusive economic growth, social justice and decent work for all.
The International Labour Conference is the highest decision-making body of the ILO and serves as a global forum for discussing labour-related issues and setting international labour standards.
The Kano delegation is expected to engage with stakeholders from different countries and gain insights that will support ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s workforce and public service sector.
The conference continues in Geneva with discussions centred on building resilient labour markets and promoting sustainable employment opportunities worldwide.
