The immediate past governor of Kano State, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has accused his successor, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, of mismanaging state funds despite receiving what he described as unprecedented federal allocations.
Speaking after a stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, Ganduje alleged that the Yusuf-led administration had received more money in just six months than his government got throughout his eight years in office, yet with little to show for it.
“When I took over power, I never wasted time probing my predecessor. Governance doesn’t end with one administration,” Ganduje said. “But Abba Yusuf started his government with probes. Tell me, what have they uncovered? They’ve received more money in six months than my administration saw in eight years. Yet what have they achieved?”
The former APC National Chairman accused the current government of reckless spending, insisting that funds were being channeled into projects without real value for money. He also described the administration as vindictive and rudderless.

“This government has no grip on governance. It’s like comparing a messenger with a permanent secretary. Theirs is a government of vendetta, clumsy and confused,” Ganduje declared.
The question of federal allocations has remained topical since President Bola Ahmed Tinubu scrapped fuel subsidy in 2023. Tinubu has repeatedly argued that the removal freed up funds, tripling allocations to state governments.
While Yusuf has defended his policies as people-oriented, Ganduje insists that Kano has little to show despite benefiting from the increased revenue.
