The Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed speculations that Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), may return to the ruling party under certain conditions.
APC’s Public Relations Officer in Kano, Ahmed Aruwa, described Kwankwaso’s remarks as misleading, insisting the party has neither sought nor welcomed his return. He stressed that membership has “proper channels and procedures,” not public demands.

Aruwa also rejected Kwankwaso’s claim of being a pioneer of the APC in Kano, noting that former governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau led the party’s formation in the state. He added that the APC would retain power in 2027 without Kwankwaso’s influence, dismissing as “unrealistic” any demand for the governorship ticket.
However, Kwankwaso’s ally, Buba Galadima, clarified that the remarks were misinterpreted, saying the former governor was only responding to pressures from NNPP members considering defection. He ruled out any immediate merger talks.
