Alhaji Mustapha Nuhu Wali (mni), former national president of Kano Science Schools Old Student Association (KASSOSA), has called on Muslims to use the Maulud period to pray for peace, prosperity, and the proper upbringing of children who will become future leaders of pride. He made the appeal during the annual Maulud celebration he hosts every 12th of Rabi’ul Awwal at his residence in Dorayi Babba, Gwale Local Government Area of Kano State. Wali explained that the gathering reflects the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), as contained in the Hadith, which enjoins parents to raise their children to love the Prophet, his household, and the Qur’an. He stressed that by emulating the Prophet’s virtues of honesty, compassion, and humility, society will continue to uphold values worth celebrating. He further urged Muslims to pray for deliverance from insecurity, economic hardship, and to particularly seek guidance for young people drifting into vices such as phone snatching. In his remarks, Malam Hussaini Bin Iliyasu Dan Bare commended the Wali family for sustaining the Maulud tradition. He encouraged Muslims to remain good ambassadors of Islam by practicing the exemplary character of the Prophet in their daily lives. The event also featured the launch of a new book of prophetic songs authored by Professor Faruk Sarkin Fada of Bayero University Kano’s Faculty of Medicine. Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Saturday extended warm greetings to Muslims in the state and across Nigeria on the occasion of Eid-el-Maulud, the annual celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the governor urged the faithful to mark the day with deep reflection and a renewed commitment to embodying the Prophet’s example. “I am delighted to felicitate with the Muslim Ummah in Kano and beyond as we celebrate the noble occasion of Eid-el-Maulud,” Yusuf said. The Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board has announced that intending pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj exercise are required to pay a deposit of N8.5 million to secure their seats. The announcement was made by the Director-General of the board, Lamin Danbappa, during a meeting with management staff, members, and Local Government Hajj Centre officers. Read Also: Ganduje Inspects Islamic Centre Project in Abuja According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the board’s Public Relations Officer, Sulaiman Dederi, the amount was fixed by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) and will be collected through bank drafts submitted via Local Government Hajj Centres. Danbappa disclosed that Kano State has been allocated 5,684 seats for the 2026 pilgrimage. He added that collection of deposits begins immediately and will close on October 5, 2025, when the final Hajj fare will also be announced. The Director-General urged prospective pilgrims to ensure timely payments in line with the schedule released by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He further reminded applicants that registration requires a valid international passport and eight passport-sized photographs.

The Kano State Hisbah Board has confiscated at least 1,600 bottles of assorted beer in the Panshekara area of Kano metropolis. This was confirmed on Wednesday by Deputy Commander General Mujahid Aminudeen, who said the operation was carried out with the support of the local community. Read Also: Kano Police Declare New Offensive Against Crime, Recover Arms, Arrest 107 Suspects “Yesterday, with the cooperation of the Panshekara community, our personnel intercepted and seized 1,600 bottles of beer,” Aminudeen said in a telephone interview. He explained that the confiscated items included bottles, cans, and plastic containers of alcohol. However, he declined to disclose whether any arrests were made during the operation. The deputy commander urged members of the public to continue supporting the board in its fight against the consumption and sale of intoxicants. “The law establishing the Kano State Hisbah Board is clear, as it prohibits the sale and consumption of beer and other intoxicants in the state,” he said. Aminudeen added that the board would intensify public campaigns on the dangers of alcohol consumption and would seek a court order for the destruction of the seized drinks. Hisbah, often described as religious police, operates in several northern states where Shariah law is enforced. In August, the Yobe State Hisbah Commission destroyed a large cache of confiscated alcoholic drinks and arraigned suspected prostitutes and alcohol offenders following a major raid.

Worshippers and students in Kano State are set to benefit from new religious facilities as the Ganduje Foundation intensifies its community intervention programmes. The Foundation’s patron, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, immediate past National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of Kano State, on Saturday inspected a series of ongoing construction projects in Ungoggo and Nasarawa local government areas. The projects include a Juma’at mosque and Islamiyya school at Bachirawa, to be overseen by Sheikh Lawal Triumph; a smaller mosque with an adjoining learning centre in the same community; and another Juma’at mosque with a female wing at Lodge Road in Nasarawa LGA. He said the projects underscored the organisation’s drive to serve humanity and strengthen faith-based learning. Among those who accompanied him were Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, APC’s 2023 governorship candidate and Chairman of the Federal Mortgage Bank; Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmud; former Kano Commissioner of Information, Comrade Muhammad Garba; Managing Director of Hadejia Jama’are River Basin Development Authority, Rabi’u Sulaiman Bichi; and Hon. Farouk Lawan.
