By Umar Idris Shuaibu, Kano Former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has called on the Kano State Government to urgently address the rising banditry in Shanono and Tsanyawa Local Government Areas. In a statement on Wednesday signed by Muhammad Garba, former Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, Ganduje described the recent attacks—marked by killings and kidnappings of women and children—as “tragic, painful, and deeply distressing.” He extended condolences to the affected families and stressed the need for coordinated response and urgent support to ease the emotional and psychological trauma inflicted on the communities. Ganduje urged the state government to implement proactive, intelligence-driven, and community-based security measures, warning that the current situation is reaching “a worrisome proportion that cannot be ignored.” He encouraged the adoption of strategies previously successful under his administration, including strengthened local vigilance networks, multi-layered community policing, robust intelligence sharing, and closer coordination with security agencies. He further called on residents of Shanono and Tsanyawa to remain calm yet vigilant, cooperate with security personnel, and provide timely information to prevent further attacks. Ganduje emphasized that ending insecurity requires collective responsibility, with collaboration among citizens, traditional leaders, government authorities, and security agencies crucial for lasting peace.

Bandits have struck multiple communities in Kano State’s Tsanyawa Local Government Area, abducting women and men in a series of night raids. The attacks, which occurred in villages including ‘Yan Chibi, Masaurari, and Birisawa, have left residents living in fear. According to reports, armed men on over 30 motorcycles swept through the communities, seizing young women and married women. In Masaurari area of ‘Yan Kamaye village, eight women and two men were abducted. In Birisawa village, within the ‘Yan Chibi axis, five women were taken by the gunmen. Another attack was recorded in Sundu, where three women were kidnapped, though two later managed to escape. Residents say the communities have been vulnerable to attacks, with many men forced to sleep in open spaces to avoid capture. The bandits are believed to have entered Tsanyawa through routes linking ‘Yan Chibi to ‘Yar Gajam in Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State before spreading into surrounding Kano communities. Security agencies have been alerted, but authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the latest attacks. Updates are expected as search efforts intensify and attempts continue to secure the release of the abducted residents.
