The Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu has paid glowing tribute to officers of the Nigeria Police Force who lost their lives in the line of duty, assuring their families of continued support from the Force. Disu also issued a stern warning to erring officers, stressing that misconduct will not be tolerated, regardless of rank or influence. He made this known while speaking at the second edition of the National Police Day, the first under his leadership where he reiterated that every life lost in service remains a moral burden on the conscience of the Force. According to him, each fallen officer represents a call for renewed commitment to professionalism, discipline, and service. The IGP emphasised the importance of collaboration in modern policing, urging traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations, and the media to strengthen partnerships with the Police in ensuring national security. He expressed appreciation to Bola Ahmed Tinubu for institutionalising the National Police Day, describing it as a demonstration of confidence in the Police Force’s capacity for reform and improved service delivery. The Police chief further paid tribute to fallen officers, describing them as heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation. “They did not die for applause or recognition, but for duty, for country, and for all of us,” he said, assuring that their sacrifices would not be in vain. Addressing officers and men of the Force, Disu acknowledged the risks and challenges they face but insisted that the institution must rise above indiscipline and misconduct. He warned that rank or uniform would not shield any officer found guilty of wrongdoing, declaring that accountability under his leadership would be firm, fair, and without exception. “Authority will never override the rule of law. There will be no sacred cows,” he stated. The IGP, however, assured that officers who demonstrate professionalism and integrity would receive the necessary support, including improved welfare, training, and operational equipment. He also addressed Nigerians directly, acknowledging concerns over police-public relations and pledging efforts to rebuild trust. According to him, the Force is committed to becoming more accountable, disciplined, and people-oriented. He noted that reforms are already underway, including the introduction of new mechanisms for internal discipline, increased investment in training and technology, and enhanced community engagement. Disu reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force is being repositioned into an intelligence-led, technology-driven, and community-focused institution capable of addressing contemporary security challenges. He reiterated that policing in the 21st century must evolve, assuring that the Force is taking deliberate steps to modernise its operations and uphold professionalism and respect for human rights.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), while also renewing the tenure of Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). The appointments were disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, noting that both decisions take immediate effect. Professor Aliyu replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who recently resigned from the PTDF to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Presidency described the new PTDF helmsman as a distinguished academic and seasoned administrator with vast experience in research, education, and institutional leadership. It added that his appointment underscores President Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening key institutions within Nigeria’s petroleum sector. In the power sector, President Tinubu also approved the renewal of Engineer Abdulaziz’s appointment as Managing Director/CEO of the Transmission Company of Nigeria for a second and final term, following what was described as a comprehensive assessment of his performance. Under Abdulaziz’s leadership, the TCN has recorded notable improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and the modernisation of the national grid infrastructure. The Presidency further highlighted Abdulaziz’s over three decades of experience in the power sector, as well as his role in advancing regional electricity integration through engagements within the West African Power Pool (WAPP). President Tinubu charged both appointees to discharge their responsibilities with diligence, integrity, and a strong sense of national service, in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Both visits were held behind closed doors at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, with neither of the political figures disclosing the purpose of their engagements with the President. Correspondents observed Dr. Ganduje, dressed in babanriga, departing the State House at about 4:15 p.m., while Badaru left roughly 15 minutes later at 4:30 p.m., suggesting that the meetings were separate consultations rather than a joint audience. Ganduje served as APC National Chairman from August 2023 until July 2025, when he stepped down from the position. He was subsequently succeeded by Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, who was elected as substantive chairman during the party’s 4th Elective National Convention held on March 27, 2026, at Eagle Square, Abuja. Political observers believe the separate meetings may not be unconnected with ongoing consultations within the APC following its recent national convention, as well as possible strategic alignments ahead of future political engagements. Both Ganduje and Badaru remain influential figures within the ruling party and are regarded as key allies of President Tinubu since the formation of the APC in 2013.
