The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has declared that it is not part of any political coalition being led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC), reaffirming its commitment to contest future elections independently. This stance was made clear at an expanded caucus meeting held on Sunday in Kaduna, where the party’s leadership outlined strategic plans ahead of upcoming by-elections. The meeting, which brought together key stakeholders, including former Kaduna State Governor Ahmed Makarfi, 2023 gubernatorial candidate Isa Ashiru, serving senators, and other elected officials focused on strengthening the party’s internal unity, resolving outstanding issues, and coordinating grassroots mobilization across the state. Edward Percy Masha, the Kaduna State PDP Chairman, said the meeting also aimed to align efforts across all zones in the state to ensure that PDP candidates receive full support in the upcoming polls. Bandits Abduct Village Head in Kaduna

Armed men suspected to be bandits have abducted the traditional ruler of Bauda, a village in the Maro community under Kufana Chiefdom, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The abduction occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2025, when the attackers stormed the community and seized the village head, Mr. Obadiah Iguda. He was taken away without resistance, while no other individuals were harmed, and no property was reported stolen. The incident was confirmed in a formal report presented to the Agom Kufana by the District Overseer, Mr. Stephen Maikori. The kidnapping has disrupted the traditional leadership structure in Bauda and raised renewed concerns over the escalating insecurity in Kajuru and nearby areas. Authorities in Kufana District have called on security agencies to intensify operations and provide sustained protection for lives and property across the region. Tinubu condemns killing of wedding travelers in Plateau, orders arrest of perpetrators

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the killing of 12 citizens from Kaduna State in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, describing the act as “heinous, unacceptable, and barbaric.” The victims, who were among 31 passengers traveling in an 18-seater bus owned by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, were reportedly attacked by a mob while en route from Zaria to Jos for a wedding ceremony. Several others were injured in the incident. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President directed the Nigerian Police Force to collaborate with other security and intelligence agencies to ensure that those responsible for the attack are arrested and brought to justice. ABU Zaria Introduces Strict Dress Code, Triggers Debate on Campus Decency

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has come under fire following the introduction of a new dress code that bans students and staff from wearing shorts, tight-fitting outfits, long eyelashes, and even engaging in acts such as hugging on campus. The policy, made public through a special bulletin dated June 16 and signed by the university management, outlines what it describes as “indecent and offensive dressing” and warns that violators will face disciplinary actions. According to the document, both students and staff are now prohibited from wearing attire deemed revealing, provocative, or inappropriate for an academic environment. Additionally, the policy forbids earrings for male students, ankle chains for female students, dreadlocks, long or colored eyelashes, and braided or woven hairstyles for males. The university also discourages what it calls “untidy appearances,” which include unkempt hair and bushy beards. Beyond dress, the bulletin also bans certain social behaviors on campus. Public displays of affection such as hugging, kissing, or sitting on each other’s laps are now classified as misconduct. Other restricted behaviors include wearing t-shirts with obscene messages, trousers that end mid-calf, face caps worn sideways or backwards, and non-prescribed colored sunglasses. The bulletin states: “Engaging in intimate open embrace (hugging/kissing)… wearing of long eyelashes by female… sagging or ‘ass-down’ by both genders… unconventional wearing of face cap… and openly sitting on each other’s lap by opposite sex” are considered acts of misconduct. NiMet Issues 3-Day Weather Alert for Thunderstorms, Rain

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted widespread thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across various regions of the country from Monday, June 16 to Wednesday, June 18, 2025. In its latest three-day weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet warned that northern states will experience morning thunderstorms and rains, especially in Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba on Monday. The intensity of thunderstorms is expected to increase later in the day across more areas including Borno, Zamfara, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano, Kebbi, Katsina, and Adamawa. The North-Central region will also experience morning and afternoon thunderstorms across parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa States throughout the forecast period. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely over Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, and others. By Wednesday, the northern region is expected to record further rainfall, with thunderstorms forecast for Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Gombe, Taraba, and others. The North-Central and Southern regions will also continue to experience scattered thunderstorms and rainfall during the morning and later hours. NiMet cautioned that strong winds may precede rainfall, advising residents to take precautionary measures such as securing loose objects, avoiding driving during heavy rain, and unplugging electrical devices during storms. The public is also advised to stay away from tall trees during storms to avoid injury from falling branches. Airline operators were urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for flight planning and safety.
