The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has sworn in Ali Musa, popularly known as “Hard Worker,” as the Chairman of Kumbotso Local Government Area, following a decisive court ruling that nullified the tenure of the former chairman. The development was contained in a statement signed by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. The swearing-in follows a landmark judgment delivered by the Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Abdu Mai Wada Abubakar, which removed Abdullahi Basaf from office and declared Ali Musa as the rightful winner and legitimate candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party for the Kumbotso council seat. The legal dispute, which dates back to the 2024 local government primary elections, centred on the alleged illegal substitution of Ali Musa’s name by the party and the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission. However, despite the court’s position, the election proceeded with Abdullahi Basaf, who was subsequently sworn into office. Following the latest ruling, KANSEIC, under the leadership of Professor Sani Malumfashi, withdrew the Certificate of Return earlier issued to Basaf and reissued it to Ali Musa, effectively recognising him as the duly elected chairman. The court also directed that Ali Musa be sworn in without delay to prevent a leadership vacuum in the local government. During the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Yusuf urged the new chairman to discharge his duties with integrity, commitment, and a strong focus on grassroots development. He emphasised that effective leadership at the local government level remains critical to the success of governance, calling on the chairman to fulfil the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Kumbotso. In his remarks, Ali Musa “Hard Worker” pledged to work diligently towards improving the welfare and living standards of the people, assuring residents of inclusive and people-oriented leadership.

The National President of the Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education (SRCOE), Kumbotso Alumni Association, Dr. Muhammad Yusha’u Gwaram, has outlined a strategic direction aimed at strengthening alumni unity and mobilizing support for the development of the institution. Dr. Gwaram made this known during the maiden National Delegates Congress of the association on Sunday in Kano, describing the gathering as a defining moment in the history of the alumni body. He explained that the congress marks a deliberate effort to resuscitate and consolidate the alumni structure into a cohesive national platform capable of driving meaningful engagement and long-term institutional support. According to him, the formation of a unified national body remains critical in aligning alumni across various class sets and professional backgrounds toward a shared vision of progress for their alma mater. He further revealed that sustained engagements with the college management and other critical stakeholders have resulted in the development of a formal constitution and the successful registration of the association with relevant regulatory bodies. Dr. Gwaram stressed that alumni associations globally play pivotal roles in advancing educational institutions, citing examples such as Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where alumni-driven initiatives significantly contribute to research funding, infrastructure development, and institutional growth. He added that similar contributions have been recorded in Nigerian institutions, including Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and University of Ibadan (UI), reinforcing the importance of alumni participation in sustaining educational excellence. In this regard, he reiterated the commitment of SRCOE alumni to contribute their quota through structured interventions, including financial support, project execution, and capacity-building initiatives aimed at improving the college’s overall standard. As part of immediate priorities, Dr. Gwaram disclosed plans to launch an appeal fund for the establishment and renovation of a National Secretariat, which will serve as a central coordination hub for the association’s activities. He also commended the college management, stakeholders, and members of various class chapters for their commitment and cooperation, noting that such collective efforts remain essential in achieving the association’s long-term objectives. Dr. Gwaram reiterated that the alumni body will sustain engagement with relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that its contributions translate into measurable improvements within the institution.
