Kano Governor appoints Hafsat acting PCACC chairperson

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed Barrister Hafsat Ada’u Kutama as the Acting Chairperson of the state Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC).

Kutama, who served as Secretary of the commission before her appointment, takes charge of the anti-graft agency following the reported resignation of its Chairman, Saidu Yahaya.

The Governor’s Special Adviser on Social Media, Ibrahim Adam, announced the appointment on his verified social media handle on Wednesday.

“His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed Barr. Hafsat Ada’u Kutama, as the Acting Chairperson of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Kano State,” Adam said.

“Until her appointment, Barr. Hafsat served as the Secretary of the Commission,” he added.

The appointment comes a day after Yahaya resigned as chairman of the commission amid reported pressure over his performance.

Yahaya was appointed chairman of the PCACC in August 2025 following the expiration of the tenure of the former chairman, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado.

Kutama’s appointment also comes against the backdrop of Governor Yusuf’s previous calls for greater effectiveness and accountability within the state’s anti-corruption agency.

In July 2026, the governor admonished officials of the PCACC to take their responsibilities seriously, saying those unwilling to discharge their duties should “deliver or step aside.”

The governor’s remarks had prompted wider discussions about institutional effectiveness and the performance of political appointees responsible for implementing government policies and responsibilities.
