Northern Support Group Drums Support for Makinde Presidential Ambition, Cites Oyo Achievements

The Northern Nigeria Support Group for Seyi Makinde has intensified its mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general election, expressing confidence in the presidential ambition of the Oyo State Governor while urging Nigerians to support what it described as a fresh leadership alternative for the country.

The President of the support group, Hon. Babangida Abubakar Haruna, popularly known as Sardauna, made the call during a prayer session and horse racing event organised by the group at the Kano Race Course Ground, popularly known as Filin Sukuwa, in Kano.

According to Haruna, the support group has already commenced grassroots mobilisation across Northern Nigeria to rally support for Governor Makinde’s presidential bid.

He said the gathering, which featured special prayers and a traditional horse racing display, was organised to seek divine guidance and blessings for Makinde’s aspiration while promoting unity among supporters.

“Our mobilisation has already started across Northern Nigeria. We believe Governor Seyi Makinde represents a new direction for Nigeria, with ideas and strategies that have not been tested at the national level,” Haruna said.

He described the Oyo State governor as a leader whose performance in office demonstrates capacity, vision and commitment to good governance, urging Nigerians to consider leaders based on their records of achievement.

Haruna noted that Makinde’s administration has recorded significant milestones in infrastructure development, education, agriculture, healthcare and security, which, according to him, distinguish the governor as a credible presidential contender.

“He is a man of his word. Nigerians should be willing to give credible leaders an opportunity instead of repeating past mistakes while expecting different outcomes,” he stated.

The support group leader called on Nigerians to continue praying for peace, unity and credible leadership, expressing optimism that the prayers offered for Makinde’s ambition and the nation’s progress would yield positive results.

He prayed for Allah’s protection, guidance and success for the Oyo State governor as the political activities leading to the 2027 elections gather momentum.

Haruna also highlighted several achievements recorded under Governor Makinde’s administration in Oyo State.

According to him, the administration has undertaken extensive road construction and rehabilitation projects across the state, implemented the “Light Up Oyo” initiative, developed modern transport terminals and commenced an Independent Power Project aimed at improving electricity supply to critical public institutions.

He further cited reforms in the education sector, including the abolition of secondary school levies in public secondary schools, the recruitment of thousands of teachers, the acquisition of sole ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) by Oyo State, and the upgrade of Emmanuel Alayande College of Education into a University of Education.

On economic development, Haruna said the Makinde administration revitalised agriculture through the establishment of the Fasola Agribusiness Industrial Hub, introduced mechanised farming support and agricultural financing programmes, and implemented reforms that strengthened the state’s internally generated revenue.

He also pointed to investments in healthcare, including the rehabilitation of over 200 Primary Health Care Centres across the state, as well as continued support for the Western Nigeria Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, as evidence of the governor’s commitment to improving public safety and the welfare of residents.

Governor Seyi Makinde recently emerged as the presidential candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) for the 2027 presidential election and has continued to attract endorsements from support groups and political stakeholders across different parts of the country.
