Kano State to Host National Summit on Creative Industry Development

The Kano State Government has approved the hosting of a landmark National Summit on Harnessing the Creative Industry to Boost Nigeria’s GDP, a strategic event aimed at unlocking the vast economic potential embedded in Nigeria’s creative sector. The approval follows a compelling proposal submitted by the Kannywood Foundation, which highlighted Kano’s central role as the cultural and creative capital of Northern Nigeria. The summit will serve as a high-level platform to explore the immense opportunities within the creative industry, including film production, fashion, artisanal craftsmanship, music, literature, and digital content creation. Expected to attract key stakeholders from across Nigeria and beyond, the summit will bring together international development partners, federal ministries and agencies, creative entrepreneurs, investors, and global digital platforms such as Netflix and Amazon. To ensure smooth coordination and successful delivery, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved the constitution of a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) comprising representatives from government agencies, private sector actors, creative industry guilds, traditional institutions, and academia. According to the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya: “This summit is not just an event, it is a strategic initiative to place Kano State at the forefront of Nigeria’s creative economy. Kannywood, our homegrown film industry, alongside our globally admired artisans and creatives, are finally receiving the attention they deserve. The summit aligns with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s people-centered vision to stimulate sustainable development, engage youth, and foster economic diversification.” The state government is calling on all stakeholders within and outside Kano, to support the success of this historic initiative, which complements the administration’s broader goals of youth empowerment, economic revitalization, and cultural renaissance. Kano Online Media Chapel Invites Digital Journalists to Join as Membership Drive Begins

The Kano State Online Media Chapel has commenced the sale of membership forms as part of efforts to strengthen its ranks and unify journalists working in the digital and online media space across the state. According to a statement issued by the Chapel’s Financial Secretary, Comrade Kabiru Basiru Fulatan, the membership form is available for a fee of N5,000 only. Interested applicants are advised to visit the NUJ Secretariat at Farm Centre, Kano, and contact the Chapel Secretary, Isiyaku Ahmed, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM daily to obtain their forms. Kano Science Schools Board Commends Muktar Adnan Day Science College Principal for Outstanding Leadership

The Kano State Science and Technical Schools Board has formally commended the Principal of Muktar Adnan Day Science College, Kano, Malam Abba Tukur Ibrahim, for his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to educational excellence. In a commendation letter dated 29th May 2025 and signed by the Board’s Director of Personnel Management, Abba Muhammad Kurawa, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, the board praised Malam Ibrahim for his significant contributions to the growth and development of the institution. The letter highlighted the principal’s outstanding performance in several critical areas, including infrastructural development, improved academic performance, student discipline, enhanced school-community relations, and promotion of co-curricular activities. These efforts, according to the board, have greatly enriched the learning environment and placed the college on a steady path of progress. The board reaffirmed its appreciation and assured the principal of its highest regard, reiterating its broader mission to enhance science and technical education across Kano State. NiMet Issues 3-Day Weather Alert for Thunderstorms, Rain

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted widespread thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across various regions of the country from Monday, June 16 to Wednesday, June 18, 2025. In its latest three-day weather outlook released in Abuja, NiMet warned that northern states will experience morning thunderstorms and rains, especially in Kaduna, Adamawa, and Taraba on Monday. The intensity of thunderstorms is expected to increase later in the day across more areas including Borno, Zamfara, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano, Kebbi, Katsina, and Adamawa. The North-Central region will also experience morning and afternoon thunderstorms across parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Plateau, Kogi, Benue, and Nasarawa States throughout the forecast period. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are likely over Enugu, Imo, Anambra, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa, and others. By Wednesday, the northern region is expected to record further rainfall, with thunderstorms forecast for Kebbi, Zamfara, Bauchi, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Gombe, Taraba, and others. The North-Central and Southern regions will also continue to experience scattered thunderstorms and rainfall during the morning and later hours. NiMet cautioned that strong winds may precede rainfall, advising residents to take precautionary measures such as securing loose objects, avoiding driving during heavy rain, and unplugging electrical devices during storms. The public is also advised to stay away from tall trees during storms to avoid injury from falling branches. Airline operators were urged to obtain airport-specific weather reports from NiMet for flight planning and safety. NUJ to Honour Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf with Media Friendly Award at 70th Anniversary Gala

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been nominated to receive the Media Friendly Award by the national leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in recognition of his exceptional support for press freedom and the development of the media profession in Nigeria. According to the NUJ, under the leadership of its National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, Governor Yusuf was selected for the prestigious award due to his notable contributions to national development, promotion of good governance, and his consistently open relationship with the media. The award will be formally presented to the Governor during the NUJ’s 70th Anniversary Awards and Gala Night, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 21st June 2025, in Abuja. Senator Barau Boosts Barau FC with N2 Million Donation Ahead of NNL Super Eight Playoffs

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, visited the training ground of Barau Football Club on Monday as the team prepares for the 2025 Nigerian National League (NNL) Super Eight Playoffs. Accompanied by the Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Atta; his Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullah; and Special Adviser on Youth and Sports, Kabiru Ado Lakwaya, Senator Barau commended the players for their performance and announced a donation of ₦2 million to the club as a Sallah gift. In a statement by the club’s Media Officer, Ahmad Hamisu Gwale, the senator expressed pride in the club’s achievements and assured continued support until Barau FC secures promotion to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL). Former Dala LG Chairman Mahmoud Sani Madakin Gini Dies in Car Accident

Mahmoud Sani Madakin Gini, a two-term Chairman of Dala Local Government Council in Kano State, has died in a tragic car accident. According to family friend Umar Ladiyo, Madakin Gini lost his life on Monday in a crash along the Kaduna-Abuja highway. He served as chairman of the council during the administration of former Governor Ibrahim Shekarau, from 2004 to 2011. In an official statement, the current Chairman of Dala Local Government, Surajo Ibrahim Imam, announced that the funeral prayer will take place today at 5:00 p.m. at the family residence in Yelwa Quarters.
