The Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE), Professor Chijoke Okwelle, on Wednesday paid a working visit to Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso, as part of his nationwide oversight tour of teacher training institutions.
The visit, held on September 17, 2025, brought together members of the college management, staff, and student representatives, and provided a platform to review the institution’s progress, challenges, and reforms.
Addressing an interactive session, Professor Okwelle commended the college for its strides in teacher education and urged management to further strengthen academic standards, research output, and digital learning resources. He reaffirmed the NCCE’s commitment to supporting colleges of education through reforms, funding interventions, and capacity-building programmes aimed at producing quality graduates.

Responding to concerns over difficulties faced by students in registering for the Nigeria Education Loan Fund (NELFund) intervention due to JAMB registration issues, Okwelle assured that the Commission is engaging relevant stakeholders. He explained that while JAMB registration remains a requirement, discussions are ongoing with JAMB and NELFund management to make the process more inclusive and flexible for genuine students.
Provost of the College, Dr. Kabiru Ahmed Gwarzo, expressed gratitude for the Executive Secretary’s assurances, noting that the JAMB hurdle had hindered many students from accessing the intervention. He said the college had been guiding students through the process despite the challenges and pledged to intensify sensitisation efforts while collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure no student is excluded.
Highlights of the visit included an inspection of facilities, meetings with key stakeholders, and interactions with student leaders, during which welfare and learning resources were discussed.
Staff and students described the visit as timely and encouraging, expressing optimism that it would attract further support and interventions for the institution.
