The Kano State Government has reacted to the recent pronouncement by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) on the establishment of a Kano State Elders Council, reaffirming that the state already has a framework in place. In a statement issued on Wednesday, September 3, by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government said Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had, in January 2024, announced the creation of the Kano Elders Advisory Council (KEAC), which is currently being institutionalized as an advisory body to the state government. READ ALSO: FG Declares Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Maulud According to the statement, the Council is made up of highly respected figures, including former governors, deputy governors, speakers, retired Supreme Court and Court of Appeal justices, former chief judges, grand khadis, ex-secretaries to the state government, heads of civil service, Ulamas, business leaders, traditional rulers, retired security chiefs, and other distinguished elders of Kano origin. The government explained that the KEAC is designed as a neutral, apolitical, and non-partisan platform that draws from the wisdom and experience of its members to provide guidance and foster inclusive development. “This noble initiative, the first of its kind in the state, stands as a collective forum for collaboration and advice to government without political ambitions,” the statement said. It added that the government’s open-door policy remains in place, inviting all organizations, individuals, and groups to align with the already established framework to strengthen the Council’s operations for the benefit of Kano people. The processes of formalizing the Council’s structure, the statement further disclosed, would soon be completed, paving the way for Governor Yusuf to officially inaugurate the body. The Kano State Government assured of its readiness to work in synergy with partners to sustain peace, progress, and prosperity across the state.

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano Command, have arrested six suspects for allegedly vandalising and stealing electricity equipment at Hayin Da’e, Hotoro, in Tarauni Local Government Area. This was conveyed in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, on behalf of the State Commandant, Shafi’u Abdulmumini. The arrest followed credible intelligence provided by members of the local vigilante group in the area. The suspects were apprehended with transformer cables believed to have been removed from a transformer in the community at midnight. Most of them are said to be residents of the affected communities. Preliminary investigations by the Corps revealed that the suspects had been terrorising residents of Hayin Da’e, Farawa Kwanar Yashi, and Hotoro Eastern Bypass through burglary, theft, and vandalism of electricity installations. The NSCDC said it has launched further investigations with the aim of arresting other accomplices, noting that confessional statements had already been obtained from the suspects. The command assured that once investigations are concluded, the suspects will be charged to court.

The Kano State Government is set to inaugurate its newly reconstituted Shuurah Council on Monday, September 8, 2025. The ceremony will take place at the Government House, Kano, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabiru Yusuf. The Shuurah Council is an advisory body that will provide informed guidance on policies and programs aimed at driving the state’s transformation agenda and promoting sustainable development. The council comprises highly respected personalities representing critical stakeholder constituencies, ensuring balanced representation across all social strata of the Kano community. All members of the council and invited guests have been invited to attend the inauguration ceremony.

The Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to deepening collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) to accelerate sustainable development in key sectors, including infrastructure, healthcare, education, and rural development. This was conveyed in a statement signed by the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, following the courtesy visit of the Bank’s Vice President (Operations), Dr. Rami Ahmad, to Government House, Kano. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, described the partnership with IsDB as central to his administration’s development blueprint. The Kano State Government has deployed 9,680 volunteers across its 484 wards to boost the ongoing online pre-voter registration exercise. Each ward will have at least 20 trained volunteers equipped with Android phones to assist residents, with more assigned to larger areas. The decision followed a meeting between the state’s Voter Registration Mobilisation Taskforce and all 44 local government chairmen. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has pledged full support, while council chairmen and councillors have promised to mobilise communities to ensure the exercise’s success.

The Kano State House of Assembly on Monday passed a supplementary budget of N215.3 billion for the 2025 fiscal year. The approval followed the adoption of a request sent by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and read during last week’s plenary session presided over by Speaker Jibril Falgore. Presiding over the sitting, Falgore said the assembly had carefully reviewed and debated the supplementary appropriation before passing it into law. He assured that the legislature would ensure proper oversight of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to guarantee judicious use of the funds. The Majority Leader, Alhaji Lawan Husseini (NNPP–Dala), explained that the supplementary budget was necessary to cater for newly established MDAs not captured in the original appropriation. He added that part of the funds would be channelled towards school renovation, infrastructural development and urban renewal projects. With the passage, Kano State’s 2025 budget has now risen to over N935 billion. The original budget, tagged “Budget of Hope, Human Capital, and Economic Development,” was presented to the House in November 2024 at N719.8 billion. Of that amount, N457.08 billion, representing 64 per cent, was allocated for capital expenditure, while N262.67 billion, representing 36 per cent, was for recurrent expenditure.
