The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Kano State Polytechnic (KSP) Chapter, has elected new executive members to pilot the affairs of the union for the next two years. The election, which was described as peaceful and transparent, saw key positions filled to ensure effective administration and improved representation of members within the institution. Dr. Badamasi Inuwa of the Life Science Department, School of Technology, emerged as the new Chairman of the union. He was returned unopposed, securing 197 votes of affirmation from members, an outcome widely seen as a reflection of confidence in his leadership capacity and commitment to the union’s ideals. Other executive positions were also filled unopposed. They include Idris Sani Salisu (Danzara) as Vice Chairman; Babangida Sa’adu as General Secretary; Aliyu Shiu Sa’id as Financial Secretary; Magaji Babayo as Treasurer; Engr. Haruna Hussaini as Internal Auditor; Dauda Yusuf Tofa as Assistant General Secretary; Sama’ila Bashir as Welfare Secretary; and Saude Sa’idu as Publicity Secretary. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, ASUP Zonal Coordinator, Zone A, Comrade Muhammed Muhammed, congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to uphold the principles and values of the union. He described the election as exemplary, noting that it was the first time he had witnessed such a smooth and commendable ASUP election process. He pledged to prioritise staff welfare, improve academic working conditions and strengthen the union in the interest of staff, students and the Kano State Polytechnic community. Dr. Inuwa also commended the Electoral Committee for ensuring stability and decorum throughout the exercise. Earlier, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr. Awaisu Adamu Salihi, thanked members for their cooperation, noting that the peaceful conduct of the election reflected the unity and maturity of the ASUP KSP family. He reaffirmed the committee’s commitment to integrity and transparency in advancing the progress of the union and the institution.

A Kano High Court has granted an interim injunction restraining the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) and four other parties from interfering in the affairs of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN), Kano. Justice Sanusi Ado Ma’aji of the Kano State High Court, Judicial Division, issued the order while ruling on an ex parte motion filed by the management of the university. The respondents in the suit include the Kano State Government, the PCACC, the Kano State House of Assembly, the Attorney-General of Kano State, and concerned parents of students of the institution. Read Also: MAAUN Group Congratulates Prof. Amina Bayero on Historic Appointment as Northwest University VC In an order dated December 11, 2025, Justice Ma’aji restrained the respondents, either by themselves or through agents, from inviting officials of the university or interfering in its administrative and academic activities, pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit. The court also directed all parties to maintain the status quo in relation to the matter between the applicant and the first respondent until the originating summons is determined. Justice Ma’aji further granted leave to the applicant to serve court processes on the fifth respondent at its office located at No. 224, Sabo Bakin Zuwo, Kano. The matter was adjourned to December 29, 2025, for further proceedings. The order was issued under the hand and seal of the presiding judge and duly endorsed by the Principal Registrar of the court.

The MAAUN Group of Universities has extended its warmest congratulations to Prof. Amina Salihi Bayero on her appointment as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano. The appointment, approved by Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, makes Prof. Bayero the first female Vice Chancellor of the institution since its inception in 2012. Prof. Gwarzo, Founder of MAAUN Group and President of the Association of Africa Private Universities (AAPU), described Prof. Bayero’s appointment as “well-deserved” given her impressive academic credentials and extensive experience. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has confirmed Professor Amina Salihi Bayero as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Kano, for a five-year tenure effective December 1, 2025. The approval follows a recommendation by the University Council after a rigorous selection process. Prof. Bayero is the first female Vice Chancellor of the university since its inception in 2012. Prof. Bayero is a distinguished scholar of Analytical Chemistry and the first female PhD holder in Chemistry from Bayero University Kano. She has served in several academic and administrative capacities, including Head of Department, Dean of the Faculty of Science, and Deputy Vice Chancellor at Yusuf Maitama Sule University. Her appointment is expected to strengthen academic excellence and promote greater gender inclusion in higher education across Kano State.

The Kano State Ministry of Education has announced that all public and private primary and post-primary schools — both day and boarding — will begin their first-term vacation on Saturday, 13 December 2025. Parents and guardians of boarding students have been asked to return their wards home by Friday, 12 December 2025. Boarding students are set to resume school on Sunday, 18 January 2026, while day students are expected to return on Monday, 19 January 2026. The second term is scheduled to run from 18 January to 18 April 2026, and the third term will begin on Sunday, 3 May 2026, ending on Saturday, 1 August 2026. The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, urged parents and guardians to adhere strictly to the approved calendar dates. He thanked the people of Kano for their continued cooperation and wished students a safe and productive first-term holiday.
