BUK Alumni Celebrate Kankarofi’s Elevation, Describe Him as Pride of 1992 Set

The Bayero University Kano (BUK) Class of 1992 has extended warm congratulations to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Naziru Bello Kankarofi on his promotion to the rank of Commissioner of Police, describing him as a pride to the 1992 alumni set and a beacon of professional excellence.

In a congratulatory message issued on behalf of the BUK ’92 Forum, Chairman Muhammad Dahiru Saad said Kankarofi’s promotion was well-deserved, commending his remarkable dedication, integrity, and outstanding leadership throughout his policing career.

Saad noted that the elevation reflects Kankarofi’s unwavering commitment to duty, professional discipline, and academic excellence, which have set him apart as a model for younger officers and alumni alike.

A native of Kano Municipal, CP Kankarofi boasts over three decades of experience in policing and security management, with an impressive track record in counter-insurgency, crime prevention, and institutional leadership.

He has served in several sensitive positions, including as ADC to the Kwara State Governor (1999–2003) and as Commander of multiple Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadrons across Nigeria, such as 9 PMF Kano, 10 PMF Bauchi, 48 PMF Ahoada (Rivers State), and 54 PMF Onitsha (Anambra State).

Between 2016 and 2019, he worked in the Inspector General of Police’s X-Squad in Kano and Jigawa, focusing on internal accountability and anti-corruption enforcement within the force. He later served as DPO in Ilorin and Area Commander in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State.

A distinguished scholar, CP Kankarofi holds a Master of Laws (LLM), Barrister at Law (BL), Bachelor of Laws (LLB), and a B.Sc. in Economics and Political Science from Bayero University Kano. He is also an alumnus of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

His colleagues described him as “a disciplined, visionary, and results-driven officer who represents the values of BUK wherever he serves.”

The BUK ’92 Forum commended his professional achievements and expressed confidence that his new position as Commissioner of Police will further strengthen effective policing and public trust in law enforcement.
