Kano spends ₦2.7bn on publicity, honorarium, sitting allowances in six months
The Kano State Government spent approximately ₦2.7 billion on publicity, advertisements, honorarium and sitting allowances between January and June 2026, according to the state’s second-quarter budget performance report.
The expenditure comprised ₦1.49 billion on publicity and advertisements and ₦1.207 billion on honorarium and sitting allowances, bringing the combined total to ₦2.697 billion, or approximately ₦2.7 billion.
The report showed that publicity and advertisements accounted for 35.7 per cent of the ₦4.16 billion allocated for the item in the 2026 fiscal year, while spending on honorarium and sitting allowances represented 47.1 per cent of the ₦2.57 billion annual allocation.
The expenditure formed part of the ₦10.36 billion spent by the state government on miscellaneous items during the first half of the year.
The overall spending covered hospitality, publicity, welfare packages, refreshments and meals, celebrations, medical expenses and other miscellaneous items. The amount represented approximately 16.3 per cent of the ₦63 billion budgeted for general miscellaneous expenses in 2026.

A breakdown of the report showed that hospitality consumed ₦1.78 billion between January and June, representing 55.6 per cent of its ₦3.19 billion annual allocation. Of the amount, ₦1.31 billion was spent in the second quarter alone.
Welfare packages accounted for ₦901.94 million out of the ₦4.03 billion budgeted for the full year, while refreshments and meals cost ₦116.53 million, representing 7.6 per cent of the ₦1.54 billion annual allocation.
Other miscellaneous expenses amounted to ₦3.80 billion, representing 29 per cent of the ₦13.08 billion allocated for the year.
The state also spent ₦296.03 million on special days and celebrations, ₦64.62 million on local medical expenses and ₦40.30 million on international medical expenses during the six-month period.
Meanwhile, expenditure under the foreign scholarship scheme stood at ₦162.95 million, representing approximately 0.6 per cent of the ₦26.23 billion allocated to the programme for 2026.
The figures are contained in the Kano State Government’s second-quarter budget performance report, which documents expenditure by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf during the first six months of the year.
