2027: APC Campaign Director Ganduje Meets Ex-President Jonathan
By Umar Idris Shuaibu
Former Kano State Governor and Director of Stakeholders’ Mobilisation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, on Tuesday visited former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan at his residence in Abuja.
The details of the meeting were not immediately made public as of the time of filing this report.
The visit comes against the backdrop of growing political consultations and preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with major political parties and influential stakeholders stepping up engagements ahead of the polls.
Ganduje is a senior member of the APC’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, where he was appointed Director of Stakeholders’ Mobilisation. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu chairs the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, serve as vice chairmen. Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar, is the Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma serves as Secretary.
The campaign council is expected to coordinate the APC’s efforts to secure the re-election of President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima in 2027, with stakeholder engagements forming part of its preparations for the election.

Ganduje has participated in several political and stakeholder engagements since taking up his role in the campaign structure.
Jonathan served as Nigeria’s President from 2010 to 2015 after succeeding the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua. He contested the 2011 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and won.

He sought re-election in 2015 but was defeated by Muhammadu Buhari of the APC, becoming the first incumbent Nigerian president to lose a presidential election in Nigeria.
Since leaving office, Jonathan has remained active in national and international democratic affairs, including election observation, mediation and peace-building initiatives across Africa.
His political plans ahead of the 2027 presidential election have also attracted considerable attention.
In May 2026, Jonathan said he was still consulting after groups of supporters urged him to contest the 2027 presidential election.
However, he has not publicly declared his intention to contest the presidency in 2027.
Against this background, Ganduje’s visit to the former president is likely to generate political interest, given Ganduje’s role in the APC’s 2027 campaign structure and Jonathan’s continued relevance in national political discussions.
There was, however, no immediate indication that the meeting was specifically focused on the 2027 presidential election.
