Kano Online Media Chapel Holds Second Physical Congress, Reaffirms Professional Ethics

The Kano State Online Media Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has held its second physical Congress, with its leadership urging members to uphold professional ethics and resist political influence as the country approaches another election cycle.The gathering, held in Kano today, provided an opportunity for members to deliberate on professional responsibilities, welfare and other matters affecting the chapel.

Addressing members, the Chapel Chairman, Comrade Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, stressed the importance of individual professional ethics, saying adherence to established standards would help protect both members and the leadership from avoidable challenges.

“Ethics reduce the burden on the leadership so that when a member engages in a problem, it does not become the sole responsibility of the executive to handle,” Dangambo said.

He cautioned members against allowing themselves to be used by politicians, particularly as political activities intensify ahead of upcoming elections.

“Make good use of standards. As elections are on the way, do not allow yourselves to be used by any politician. Do things in a manner that does not compromise the standards of our profession or the society in which we operate,” he said.

Dangambo urged practitioners to remain conscious of their responsibility to the public, stressing that professional integrity and public trust should remain central to their work.

During the gathering, the Chapel Secretary, Comrade Isyaku Ahmed, presented the Secretariat Report covering the period under review. The report was read on his behalf by the Assistant Secretary, Comrade Isyaku Abdullahi Kofar Na’isa.

Members also deliberated on welfare-related matters, with the leadership reaffirming its commitment to the wellbeing of practitioners within the chapel.

The meeting provided an opportunity for members to exchange views on professional responsibilities, strengthen internal cooperation and consider issues affecting online journalism practice in Kano State.

The Kano Online Media Chapel reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, responsible journalism, member welfare and continuous development of the online media sector.
