Adedeji Adeleke, father of Afrobeats star Davido and elder brother of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, has revealed what he did after hearing allegations that voters were being offered as much as N50,000 for a single vote during the Osun State governorship election.

Speaking in a viral video, the businessman said he returned to his room, knelt down and prayed after learning about the alleged vote-buying.

According to him, he prayed that voters would collect the money but still cast their ballots for his brother, Ademola Adeleke.

Adeleke also attributed his confidence throughout the election to his strong faith in God.

He said, “Record me and play it to him. Let Oyetola hear. And let him know the reason why we defeated him.

“The only reason why we defeated Oyetola is not that we are bigger or that we spent more money than him. On election day, we didn’t spend any money.

“They spent 60 billion, as we heard. In some places, they bought most votes for as high as N50,000 for a single vote.

“On the day of the election, when I heard the kind of money they were spending, I went back to my little corner in my room, and I knelt down and I prayed to God.

“I said, ‘God Almighty, let people collect their money, but let them still vote for Ademola Adeleke.’”

The businessman said his faith had helped him remain calm and confident despite the political developments surrounding the election.

He said he regularly reads and prays with selected Bible passages, including Isaiah 41:10, which he described as one of the passages that strengthens his faith.

“And when I finish reading this, you know that I’m not the reason why I’m not afraid of anything. You know the reason why I am not bothered about anything.

“Because I believe my belief in God Almighty is very strong,” he said.

Adeleke further said his faith had reduced his interest in seeking the attention or support of influential individuals.

“That’s why you don’t see me running after people in high places or competing with people to go and visit anyone.

“I would rather do it in my little corner. I would rather ask God Almighty to help me,” he said.

His comments followed the declaration of his younger brother, Ademola Adeleke, as the winner of the Osun State governorship election, securing a second term in office.
